Description
One of my favorite prehistoric fish of all time: dunkleosteus terrelli. They're just so bad ass looking, you can't help but love them. Since as of now there hasn't been a body found of dunkleosteus terrelli, so I used relatives of dunkleosteus terrelli that have been discovered with full bodies intact. So this is my best guess. Skeleton done in marker, colored pencil, and white pen. Labels done in Illustrator.MY PATREON! patreon.com/RushelleKucala

Why do the artist so surreal? is this dinosaur fossil nicley draw. the pieces are good of quality but needs some improvement? the background solid of one color which makes me mind what environment bones exits? this creature might be angry and I wonder what human person could have angery it. I could wonder more but this peice is overall good with a surreal contemporary art? I like how this creature resembles an fiery dragon? perhaps shares of common ancestor of dragon, maybe an dinosaur is part of family household maybe not i will wonder for all an eternity, good piece?

Thanks! I don't know if you're familiar with my prehistoric anatomy illustrations, but I purposely use a bland background for my skeleton and muscle studies because this is supposed to be more educational than a illustration of a prehistoric scene. Google science illustrations and art and you'll notice the focus is on the subject rather than the background (unless the background is part of the topic being taught). When I do the fully restored illustration I do full on background. If you still don't like it then that's fine, I understand. I don't know where you're getting the idea that it's angry. I guess they do have "angry" faces, but I always try to draw my prehistoric reconstructions as animalistic as possible and I avoid the Jurassic Park, movie monster style. Also dunkleosteus is not a dinosaur, they are a prehistoric fish.

Is the axial skeleton boney or cartilaginous? Is there hard evidence for the heterocecal caudal fin?

Unfortunately, we don't know 100% what the body of a dunkleosteus looks like since it's never been discovered. However, I used close cousins of dunkleosteus called arthrodires that have been found with their bodies completely intact. So this is my best guess. Hopefully a fully intact dunkleosteus will be discovered and then I can make the needed changes.

Amazing work! Dunkleosteus is definitely among the most under-appreciated prehistoric sea monsters.

Oh this is cool. You don't know how much of a great resource you are for palaeoart. An unsung hero, I say!

It's quite alright! Honestly, you've done dinosaurs, pterosaurs, mammals, a mosasaur and now a fish! What else have you got in store, I have to ask?

I'm working on a huge project right now showing the evolution of whales. It might be a while before I finish and post it, but keep your eyes out for it!

Yes, that's why it'll take so long. I picked 7 transitional fossils that will be lined up and you can compare skeleton, muscles, and restored versions.

Ooh this is cool!Β Especially since old Dunkleosteus's anatomy is suitably unlike those of modern fish and other vertebrates ... I'm looking forward to the rest.
