For those of you who have not read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, please take the time to read this background info so that you may fully understand my banner.

The Kite runner is about two boys in Afghanistan, Amir and Hassan, who were raised together from the time of their birth, just like thir fathers, Baba and Ali. The boys and their fathers are like a family, but the society sees them more as masters and servants because Baba and Amir are Pashtuns while Ali and Hassan are Hazara, a lower-class group. Amir and Hassan enter the yearly kite competition, and Hassan is the Kite Runner, the one who runs after the kites that fall. Hassan goes after a kite alone and is gone for a very long time. Amir goes to look for his friend and discovers him cornered in an alley by Assef, Kamal, and Walid, bullies who had bothered the boys before. Assef demands that Hassan hand over that winning kite, but Hassan is too loyal to Amir to give it up. So, Assef and his minions attack Hassan. Amir can only watch in horror, frozen in fear, as Assef rapes Hassan "to show him his place". So this song fits the situation because no one would have stopped to help Hassan because he is only a Hazara. Amir is the only one who could have done anything, and he only watched, mortified.
