This picture is about action and composition. They are both strong. What is most special about the picture is the action. In glamorous shots (the category of this pic) most models are just being beautiful. This man is doing something what is nice already. What he is doing is most interesting, he is preparing an further action that will make the viewer the subject of a new picture. The roles will change. To do so he is making all kinds of estimations in respect to the viewer as a subject. More over he is doing so intensely and with one eye only. The last is a natural thing when making these judgements as is the smirk on his face. That makes his studying of the viewer far more intense and interesting than it tends to be in glamour photo's. To emphasise this he even stretches his hand out to the viewer. That is a second direct action towards the viewer that in most of the cases would be percepted as aggressive. But the in this case the for not-photographers essential title of the pic makes it clear he is just doing his job.

In that respect it is a bit peculiar that he is half naked and doesn't seem to have any equipment (photo-equipment that is). Yet I like the composition because it adds some extra bite to the picture. And it creates a second centre of attention. Overall the composition is very strong partly because is unusual both as a portrait and as a glamour pic.

The artist made the right choice to dress the model in a black shirt; it goes well with his black hair too. No shirt at all would make the action look ridiculous and might distract. Any colour of the shirt would distract as well. I might try to add some vignette in the corners but then I might still choose to keep it open. What I would surely consider is to keep the whole knee in the pic. There is one horizontal line (the only one) and that is leading the eye directly out of the picture.

I am hesitating at the point of the perfect lightning. Most light seems to be in the face at the site of the closed eye. I cannot help thinking that the pic would even be more intense if the right side of his face (and body) would be significantly darker then the left side. I am not a devoted studio photographer with their passion of control, but if I would have that much control, I would have tried that option. But perhaps the artist has evaluated that possibility and rejected it. These are personal preferences.

At the end I see a stunning picture; intense with a lot of subtleties and playful with power..

All good points as usual from your trusty observations.
If I had it to do over, I would include the full knee,
and yes, adjust the lighting on one side to provide some contrast.

Thanks again for your time and your thoughts.

Well ID, I like this one.  You've captured his playfulness.  Suddenly, I have a hankering for some Asian food.  Of course, it must be painstakingly prepared to bring out all the flavor and goodness thereby making it a culinary delight.  This  is one of your best.
