Description
"What the hell are they? They're not human, they're not even made from flesh and blood."These are some of the basic ground troops of the mysterious faction known as the "Revelation." Downfall is basically an alternate universe set in WWII, with cyberpunk, horror, and fantasy influences.
From left to right:
Airborne/special operations - equipped with select-fire automatic carbines, pistols, and sound suppressors. They are air-dropped behind Allied and Axis lines, where they conduct devastating raids.Β
Regular infantry - each individual is usually issued a semiautomatic carbine and a service revolver. On occasion they receive submachineguns for urban warfare. Specialized members are assigned scoped rifles, rocket/grenade launchers, mortars, or machineguns.Β
Berserkers - generally carry trench guns (shotguns), but have been seen using submachineguns or rifles from time to time. They frequently engage in close combat with bayonets, tomahawks, or machetes. Despite being bulky and heavily armored, they are surprisingly swift.
About time I revisited this universe.

Ok i know you dont have the story of this faction done because of what you've said in the comments but what was your inspiration to do them from?

That's hard to say. I would say the Safeguard from Tsutomu Nihei's Blame!, but in concept these are more similar to the Necron from WH40K.

There will be, but those will be heavy weapons - not something that is issued to regular soldiers.

Is it wrong that I want to use these and whatever other Revelation are revealed in some kind of RP?

Nah, it's flattering...but not much has been revealed about what's canon, and I've still a long way to go in revealing the context of everything.

Heh, canon or non-canon, I really would like to use these. But I can wait until everything is shown off.

I'm not quite as restrictive (protective) compared to other artists when it comes to use of their characters/universes/species/etc.
All I can say is, it is unlikely for me to officially endorse anything that isn't canon or within reason. At the same time, it wouldn't be very productive for me to go after people for pursuing something outside of what I intended nor do I have the time to moderate what goes on - though there may be exceptional cases.Β
However, have fun and thanks for asking. After all, many fans of games/literature/anime/TV/whatnot have their own headcanons, OTPs, AUs and what have you. I have entertained the notion of RP/gaming, but at the present moment it's an insurmountable task, considering the amount of worldbuilding/character dev that still needs to be done.

Cramming everything into it huh?
What sort of magic are you using? Eldritch horror or sorcery or shamanism, etc?

It's a bit early, seeing as I've only illustrated the more conventional aspects of it all - but the foreseeable applications of magic will include destructive spells (fire, lightning, other projectiles), summoning, mental spells, healing/resurrection, shapeshifting, and alteration of the landscape/weather. It usually won't be these guys casting spells though - it'll be their superiors and overlords - characters that look sorta like Hellraiser cenobites, if I were to make a casual comparison.
The majority of the really nasty stuff will be employed by the antagonists (Revelation), but humanity will still have a few means of fighting back.

So more like Infernal Hell Powers?
And when is this set? Before or after the fall of the Reich?
I'm asking a lot of questions because you've got my curiosity piqued.

You could put it that way.
Before the fall - to be specific, the Revelation begin launching massive assaults in Europe and Asia/Pacific in 1938, though unconfirmed/unidentified incidents perpetrated by them were done years prior and blamed on terrorism by extremists/separatists.Β
They are mostly "cyborgs" (for the lack of a better term - I like the Safeguard from Tsutomu Nihei's blame, known as silicon creatures/life, but I plan to come up with a more original designation) - and are able to "download" themselves into the world and materialize at various nexuses with advanced synthesis technology. They cannot truly be killed, as the perceived death of any of their soldiers merely destroys their physical body, and not the "ghost" controlling it. Which is one of the reasons humanity is pushed to the brink of destruction - they are facing an immortal enemy that has an endless industrial capacity, unrestricted by requirements of human sustenance or logistics.

So you've got Allies and Axis working together to stay alive?
They must be incredibly technologically advanced. Some kind of time-travelers or aliens perhaps?
Must be a pretty grim and hopeless fight to know that they'll just whittle you down to nothing.

TheDrowningEarth In reply to Chrispy92 [2014-07-06 03:48:05 +0000 UTC]
Not quite working together - though I could say they certainly have a greater threat to deal with. But it'll be pure chaos at its finest, while making the call who is friend or foe will be quite important. Incidentally there will be humans who wind up working with the Revelation under interesting circumstances.
Travelers, aliens. Not quite, but things will be surprising towards the end, when a bit more about their origins is revealed.Β
As for ending though, for what I have planned in mind, this won't employ the overused trope of some doomsday savior weapon/weakness that will miraculously wipe out the enemy and save the day. That won't happen in anything I do, period.

Something to turn back the tide. At least gradually. Trying to handle their own households won't be fun for humanity, that's for sure.
I look forward to seeing more.

It's going to be difficult to imagine, given the state of computing technology in the 1940's. But at the same time, getting creative will produce something really interesting.
Essentially, I'd say that internet/mobile becomes available, though people will still be using old technology (i.e. monochrome cathode ray tubes) - so it looks old and ugly unlike the Apple aesthetic that dominates today.
At least I can say, it's never been done before.Β
