Description
For the last three years, Genevieve Cevallen has been the reigning champion of the MechaGP Time Trials, setting a new record every year. But today, a new challenger appears! From the Alpine-6 racing team, we have Justina Taley. She is piloting the Sunseeker 92, a custom raceframe derived from the MXG-9011 chassis and heavily customized, in addition to being equipped with an Eclipse Industries overboost module. Not much is known about her - some say she was a pop idol, a model, or even a S-class contractor prior to entering MechaGP. However, she's certainly gained a following since her debut in the MechaGP preliminaries and certainly the dark horse candidate in this race. Justina has proved that she's got the skill to be there, and Sunseeker 92's specs are definitely worthy of a next generation frame.About MechaGP:
MechaGP is the premier mecha racing championship, recognized in over 180 countries and 12 planets. Although mecha were predominantly used in warfare over the past centuries, technological proliferation has facilitated their introduction to industry, sport, and entertainment.
Racers and their sponsors can enter under the Limited or Open divisions.
The Limited Division imposes restrictions on the mecha's specifications and equipment, such as engine output, power curve and AI-assisted pilot interfaces.
While all forms of equipment are allowed in Open Division, weapons are prohibited in the time trial event, as well as any device or maneuver that could injure another racer or damage their frame. The only event that allows weapons is the Biathlon, in which target shooting stages are present along the course. Racers are still prohibited from targeting each other's mechs, while ordnance is limited to non-guided linear munitions. Otherwise, racers are merely required to follow the track or approved flight plan, then secure victory by making the best of their skill and equipment.
What we're looking at now is the Stratolancer time trial event - in which mecha racers will take off from a ground level flightline, and reach altitudes as high as 50km above the planet's surface. The course itself is over 1,000km in length, with mechs moving at velocities of over 300km/hr, and possibly over 1000km/hr with booster rockets activated. In two weeks we will be witnessing the Orbital Dive event, in which racers arrive at a space station through an orbital elevator, launch, re-enter the atmosphere and commence racing at lower altitudes.
