Nice work and nothing wrong with the style, seen plenty of different ones across GW's stuff and some are quite unusual.
I'd hope they gave some indication as to what the issue or issues were, but if I were guessing, and I am, it may be less ability than scene?Β Judging by the orks position and reaction, the old boy in blue there kinda looks as if he literally popped out of thin air among them as they sat around.Β Even teleporting in would give them more warning than they seem to have mustered.

Yea it could be that. Never really thought about the logic of the scene when i made this so i'm paying a little more attention to the story when i make these kind of scenes now

It's a bit poor form if GW didn't indicate why they passed on your work, how are you supposed to address what GW thinks is wrong if you don't know what it is?
Anyhoo, glad to be of any small assistance and best of luck with any future submissions.

Oh, yea they did tell me why they passed on my work. Mostly it was a clash of artstyle. I'll work at it and get in eventually

It probably failed because the pauldrons are not big enough. I mean, your character still has peripheral vision? Do you even Spehss Mehreen bro?
Seriously now though, this is a very nice piece. Favorited.

ANYTHING THAT DEFIES THE EMPERORS GLORY IS HERESY! This just happens to be the foul Xenos flavor of heresy.

i though you know that game workshop are dicks in the first place, example: craft world eldar 7th edi (or 7th edition in general), Matt Ward and his grey knights, removing DE characters in 7th, etc. And don't get me started on SOB (they still at 5th?)

your paint style is awesome mate. I'm no expert, but to be honest i find when things are too polished and finished it takes a lot of the character away from the piece. keep it rough i say!!

thanks! yea i feel like things that look a little too perfect usually dont have much 'soul' to them. doesnt mean i dont want to have a little more polish to my work though Β

This + "Failed" = heresy
GW is probably infiltrated by lacrymoles and chaos trying to censored the emprah's glory

Failed? GW must just be yanking the chains now. Β
I'm imagining how old he must really be, to look mid 60's. Β So many centuries experience killing orks.
LIke your execution of said orks as well! Β

ALL HAIL THE EMPEROR, BURN ALL THE HERETICS, EXTERMINATUS ( in english, it is exterminate, thus making humans no different than the daleks, another genocidal race)

And now I'm having images of Adeptus Mechanicus finding an STC of salt-shaker-shaped infantry power-suits and outfitting a good deal of the Imperial Guard with them. The suits are called Daltonian Armatures of Extermination (named after John Dalton in relation to his work on atomic theory and the tiny nuclear reactors that power the suits). So, of course, the Guardsmen shorten the name to "Dal-X", which gets corrupted into "Daleks". Oh, and the Mechanicus is wary of altering the designs in STCs, so they leave the part where the weapons only work when the operator of the suit yells "EXTERMINATE" at regular intervals, which ends up being rough on the operators' throats. Flash-forward a couple of millennia and a couple of freak warp-storms, and a bunch of horribly mutated Dalek Guardsmen end up in a brand new universe, having completely lost their sense of humanity but gained greatly increased intellect. All that remains of their former culture are a few cheerful Imperial teachings such as: "The Emperor asks only that you hate", "The dissident invites only retribution", "Suffer not the xenos to live", "Kill the alien, burn the heretic, purge the unclean", "To admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor", etc. They no longer remember who this "Emperor" is but think of him as the source of all wisdom. Eventually they get in a big fight with the Time Lords.

This looks soo good though! :0 Sad to hear it didn't make it in, was it because it's kind of another style than most Warhammer illustrations?

Yea it was more because my style was a little more messy and painterly than they wouldve liked

well i have to say that this is probably the first time that i see a combination of these 3 ages or styles all in a single character,
which if i haven't missed anything are as follows : skeletons and light above or around the head and the falcon along with the spell or magic signs are for occult
heavy steel armor and the sword is for the iron age
and the gun, the pipes and grenades is for a futuristic age perhaps or maybe even bio tech or robots
and that just makes this art piece amazing.

Honestly this is way better than a lot of book covers from official GW books. You got the "grim dark future" really well, specially with all that dirt.
But who am I to judge their judgment, lol. Just keep doing the awesome stuff you always do man, you are a great inspiration to me and a lot of people out there.

If i can give my personal opinion and then recieve my beating from the comments. yeah if i compare this to other art of the game it looks dirty. Really wish i could actually know what exactly is wrong since i draw with freaking crayola, just wanted to find some way to help you. Love your work and if there's anything that I could do to help you improve I'll do it. Good luck with futur attemps.
