He's just Deadpool, except not as funny or as skilled.

Well, he was his own character in his own title. And part of a nice story arc ("what the hell happened to Deadpool"-more or less). A nice fill-in arc between the end of Deadpool's classic series and Cable & Deadpool.
I'd say, give the guy a chance, try at least checking out Agent X book before dismissing it without a try.
Heck, you might even like it!

It was written by Gail Simone- a classic Deadpool writer. I'm sure I would like it, if I could be bothered to find it.
What, exactly, would you say sets him apart from Deadpool? Cosmetics aside, of course.

Well, he's actually a completely different guy. The running joke/or story arc to be precise is that people think he's in fact the missing Deadpool.
But he's an ex-yakuza that got (sort of) mixed up with Wade during an explosion in the last DP issue. So he's able to also regenerate, etc..
Other than the similarities "outside". He's actually a more serious kind of guy. He actually does bounty hunter jobs (while Deadpool's more about joking around, be it in the classic series or the current Daniel Way comics). His stories are sort of what Simone or Palmiotti tried to do with Deadpool near the end of his on-going series. (before it was quickly canceled and forgotten) You know, having a professional agency, with a large cast of characters and all.
Deadpool comics are more about Wade getting into trouble/proving he's a badass/kicking ass of random characters/acting loony. Agent X run was about missions, jobs, and an overall story arc.
The characters might be similar, but their stories/situation are quite different.
Plus, I just love the (oh, so short) interaction between those two be it in the end of Agent X or in Cable&Deadpool. They're like brothers who are totally alike and unlike, and hate each other's guts.

I suppose I can see an older brother/little brother dynamic. I thought the obesity thing was pretty stupid, though.
