Woah, I'm submitting something that's not a clay figure!?!? I'm just as surprised as you are.

This is my entry for turtleyamazing 's contest of drawing a dragon playing an instrument made for a dragon. I really loved this prompt (It's such a cool idea!) and I debated for awhile about whether I should draw and submit something. I have thought about entering contests before, but ultimately decided not to as I am not too confident in my drawing skills. However, I thought of an idea for an instrument and I have a few Wings of Fire characters who are musicians, so I decided to go for it!

Anyway, this is my Seawing percussionist Octopus, playing some sort of steel drum-piano instrument. This was my train of thought when coming up with this instrument. I decided to draw some sort of drum since my art skills are not very advanced and I figured a drum is simple enough to draw. Since Octopus is a Seawing, I thought that he could be playing steel drums (an instrument that originated in the Caribbean). I've never played steel drums, but I think the smaller drums are played with smaller drumsticks. I thought that dragons could use their talons like the drumsticks, so they would be playing it like a piano. Because of this, I made the drum in more of the shape of a keyboard, so that it could be played like a piano. This probably would not work realistically, but eh. I also thought that dragons could also use their tails (and wings, though I did not implement that idea here) in some way to play music, so I added a tambourine to his tail.

I'm actually happy with how this turned out. This is my sixth? time drawing a dragon fullbody, so I think it could be worse. I also tried shading for the first time!

I will be posting some clay figures soon too, I've made a bunch over the past few months but have not taken any pictures of them yet (I'm really lazy sometimes).
