No, The Cage was first, but WNMHGB was the begining of Kirk's mission.

Yeah, but I got momentarily confused as I think of "The Cage" as the beginning of Star Trek even though "WNMHGB" was the one that aired on 9/8/66.

I always forget "The Man Trap" as I think of the episodes by production order. And when I first was interested in The Original Series, we would watch the episodes in any order that struck our fancy. "Catspaw" was the VERY FIRST one I ever watched.
