How did it come to this? It was supposed to be us grabbing the initiative! We were nearing Kzinti space, when out of the blue, one of their cruisers just tore out of subspace and laid waste on us.
My hand gets white as I grab my chair's armrest. I don't even need to give orders, everybody knows what to do. They are veterans, we all are, but everything keeps falling apart. We're not dealing with greedy pirates or cold and calculating Romulans anymore. The Kzinti are literal beasts! They attack like predators. They were trailing us from Earth.
I suddenly get nausaeous and it takes all of my strength not to throw up in plain fear. They know where Earth is! They know where our nest is and all they're waiting for is the right moment to strike!
"Call, patch me through!", I cry. She nods and punches up a regional wide area signal.
"Channel's open", she says.
"Fall back!", I say, jumping up as if that makes any difference, "We need to get back to Earth, pronto!"
As if it were that easy. Centurion's been destroyed and Dominica is getting pummled. We're locked in a deadly game of predatory and prey and we must beat the unbeatable odds just to get home and warn everybody...
