Description

The final moments of the USS Odyssey.

Gotta be honest, seeing this was scary as heck! A Galaxy class ship, basically a copy of the Enterprise-D, being offed in mere minutes...

This was definitely a gut shot that I recall vividly.

It was like the DS9 writers said, "There's a shark and we are going to jump it!"

It lead to the introduction of the Defiant which was probably the best thing ever to happen to DS9.

That and "The Way of the Warrior"

Agreed, although I didn't like they added Worf to the cast. I never really liked him.

I wondered why the writers needed to add Worf... I was alright with his character though my favorite from TNG was probably Q, Picard, or Data.

Well, beside Picard and Data, all characters were annoying. At least, Q was meant to be annoying. The rest... pretty much the reason why I consider the TNG crew the weakest crew altogether.

Q was fun in the sense that you could have interesting opportunities for writing with the characters.  The episodes that best used Q were the ones later on as well as the last episode of the series.  Where he had dialogue with Picard in how to avert his death or prevent humanities downfall.

I disagree with Geordi La Forge, I felt he was good.  She wasn't one of the main crew but Ensign Ro made an interesting re-occurring character.  The episode with her and Geordi being 'dead' was fun.

I think the characters did have great play with one another but perhaps not just by themselves.  Except Data and Picard who could.

Beautiful Render!!!

This battle was pretty good and more than anything showed just how inadequate the weapons of the Galaxy class were really in a flight. It really drove home the point that "the Star Trek: TNG era is over". Granted, while it wasn't the first time we saw a Galaxy class ship destroyed, but it was the first time a living enemy deliberately destroyed one on-screen. it was really powerful to show the USS Odyssey a sister ship to the USS Enterprise completely get pulverized by the Dominion so easily. It also showed just how dangerous the Dominion was when a Galaxy class USS Enterprise can hang in a fire fight with a Borg cube; but the USS Odyssey was easily destroyed here.

As always you are very welcome!  I know the bridge for the USS Odyssey was barely seen in the Star Trek: DS9 episode The Jem'Hadar   but Rekkert  did one bridge design before as it looked just before it's ill-fated mission to the Gamma Quadrant.

That was quite an introduction to the true threat of the Dominion. Only rivaled by the Borg.

Seeing as the TNG series had already wound down, it might have been even bolder if it really had been the Enterprise-D that was destroyed. It might have been better than the ignoble and completely preventable way it got offed in Star Trek Generations anyway. Think of it; the only reason it got destroyed in that movie was because the crew was too stupid have have Geordi (and his visor) checked for spyware the moment he was rescued from those Klingon sisters. Had they taken such a common-sense security measure, the Enterprise-D would have never been in jeopardy at all. Odyssey on the other hand went down fighting and was destroyed through no fault of anyone aboard.
But concerning the picture itself and its theme; right on! Scary as Jason Vorhees crashing the high school prom.

Fully agree with both parts of that statement. So many things they could have done with Kirk meeting the TNG cast, and *that's* what they came up with?! (rolls eyes and gags)

Don't forget, Before the Odyssey left for the rescue mission, it offloaded all families and non-essential personnel to DS9. The Enterprise-D should have done the same thing before going on it's Ill Fated voyage to Veridian III, though I still think it should have survived the events of Star Trek Generations just due to the fact that the Bird of Prey it was facing wasn't that much of a challenge.

I agree... especially on that last. That's one reason I find that whole setup disappointing. The Enterprise-D's destruction was like the Terminator getting knocked over by Punky Brewster (sorry; I don't watch new TV anymore so I can't think of a more modern equivalent; but I trust you get the idea).

I remember being terrified of this scene as a kid, because, well, I HAD thought that the Enterprise had been blown up.  It was only after my dad told me that it was, in fact, the Odyssey, that I calmed down.

Yeah, Starfleet was overconfident. The Galaxy class was their best ship then. A relatively well armed massive starship. And it failed on all levels at this moment.

She lasted ten seconds after taking a detonating warp core to the gut without shields.

I'm pretty sure she exceeded any design expectations by a fairly large margin and still held on far longer than almost any other ship in that position.
