Description
This is the mission patch of the Pallada class' earliest beginnings. Before the USS Pallada NCC-780 was built, her designers constructed a one-third scale, man-rated model. The vessel, named XK-7GLI and dubbed "Double Drumstick" by her flight crew was built as a joint European Hegemony / USSR project before the blueprints of the Pallada class were finalized and Earth-wide construction began.
The development team, headed by Maria Boccioni, considered computer simulations unreliable and wanted to see first-hand how their design behaves under real conditions. The "starship" (it never left the Sol system) was equipped with a shuttle-grade Warp propulsion system and was used to test the ship's handling characteristics in subspace, interplanetary space and orbit.
The results led to the fine-tuning of the Pallada concept and within a year, construction of the NCC-780 and NCC-781 began. XK-7GLI was scrapped, although the command cockpit "bridge" was retained and is now displayed on the grounds of Tereshkova Barracks, First Fleet Academy.
