Recalling what she contributed to not just Star Trek, but sci-fi television, I can't help but see what is missing from so many of the series and films in the genre, these days.... but that is a topic for another time and place.

There's quite a list of episodes that she wrote - and pretty much all were at least good episodes. Not one stinker...

There's a Wikipedia article that covers the broad range of shows she wrote for:

What I'd really like to know of she ever spoke with Diane Duane. What Ms. Fontana has created in Journey to Babel was expanded to the ultimate in Spock's world. And that book has a chapter in it that is the most beautiful thing I have ever read, period.

Oh no. This is the first I have heard of her passing away. I've been familiar with her name for some fifty years now; not quite as far back as when TOS aired but from shortly thereafter when David Gerrold wrote a number of books about Star trek and mentioned her prominently before the show was available again in syndication. She added more lore to Star trek than anyone short of Gene Roddenberry himself and was instrumental in keeping Trek alive - helping to make the animated show better than it likely otherwise would have been for one thing.
This is most reason for personal mourning I've had since Leonard Nimoy passed; the two of them together making Mr. Spock the unforgettable character that he was. She was in fact by all accounts a grand lady who did more to make Star Trek what it is than almost anyone else ever.

I'm sad to say I did not know her name until today, even though I have been watching Trek for decades (though not as long as she has been writing them.)

Talk about a pioneer.Β  Plus, it's something to have written all those stories in an age when hollywood writers were men.Β  RIP.
