It's completely shrouded in a scattering field that reflects our sensors in all available spectrums. What we can determine is that the atmosphere is standard nitrogen-oxygen, as M-class as it can be. The barrier does not encompass the atmosphere completely. And just to make things even weirder, a blip on our sensors, the faintest of echo. Signs of life? Civilization? Who knows...

Okay, people, you might know that I'm a huge fan of the webcomic Sleepless Domain. It has a really interesting concept, great character drama, and moments that make you drop your jaw.
And of course it had to be the Polaris to find such a world, because 1, it's the Polaris, 2, it's better not to let Kirk near a world dominated by cute girls wearing what could be interpreted as fetish gear
