Yeah, I think the crab dock was designed especially for the Galaxy/Nebula classes.

Utopia Planitia Mars, birthplace of the USS EnterpriseΒ NCC-1701-D. Yeah, I said it; she's a Martian ship!

It blows my mind that I first saw this on an old episode of Star Trek: Voyager, and then I come straight to my room and find this for the first time ever on deviantART. And it's amazing.

Always good to see none-combat images of Trek. Many seem to forget the day to day life of Starfleet Nice work mate

Great work Dave, quite the scene you have there.
Utopia was never really seen much in the series, the best view was in that Voyager episode

Don't get me wrong. Your work is flawless. I was just never a fan of the 'Galaxy/Nebulae' drydock.
It seems fine for holding the old girl in place, but it provides little to no light, and it doesn't look to allow any outside work to be done. I know the show designers wanted to make something as unique as the ship herself, but the old dry dock design would have been fine for me.

I think the production crew merely wanted something unseen before.

That, I understand, but I just wish it appeared more serviceable, and not like an office building with tendrils.

It's the most beautiful sight I've ever seen since the Refit 1701 in drydock.

Yeah, Starfleet was obviously compensating for something

Is this Enterprise or another Galaxy-class (such as USS Galaxy (NX/NCC-70637), the lead ship of the class?)
π: 0 β©: 2
thefirstfleet In reply to Wolfman-053 [2014-08-05 19:59:47 +0000 UTC]
The model is labelled Enterprise, but it could be any other Galaxy class starship...

Wolfman-053 In reply to thefirstfleet [2014-08-05 20:00:54 +0000 UTC]
Okay, it's nice to know. Since the registry is shaded here, I assume that it's meant, in this case, to simply represent the class?
π: 0 β©: 1
thefirstfleet In reply to Wolfman-053 [2014-08-05 20:13:02 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. The Excelsior class down there is also labelled USS Excelisor NCC-2000, however, I did not mean to represent Sulu's ship.

That one's far enough away from the putative camera that it doesn't matter...
