Sirus and Jamie stayed with the new mare for several weeks while Sirus worked on forming a connection with her getting her used to being handled before they made the long trip overseas to return to Tasmania. Nelda traveled well sandwiched between Grawa and Shale who provided her with good models of calm around all the hustle and bustle of airports and quarantine before they at long last made it home in time for the beginning of Autumn.

When they did arrive home Sirus was quick to get Grawa and Nelda into a paddock together near the stables, the two had reconnected over their time together traveling and Sirus was more than happy to keep the little family united.

They started into more training soon after the new mare settled. Sirus worked hard to reduce her flightiness long before they attempted anything under saddle. They practiced in the arenas, indoor and out, with balloons, plastic bags, other horses, tarps and streamers to expose Nelda to as much as possible.

Nelda gained confidence slowly but her trust in Sirus grew quickly. While Grawa tended to hover nearby during their lessons Nelda turned to Sirus more and more when she did have a fright and startled herself into a spook.

Sirus was pleased with the younger mare's brain and the way she was opening up. He liked to see her similarities to Grawa and wondered about her sire and what bits of him filled the gaps. Maybe one day they'd be able to visit him and have themselves a family catch up.

The day that Nelda was able to walk calmly with the training tarp dragging half off her the whole thing sliding as she walked without missing a step was the day Sirus decided it was time for her to begin under saddle. He couldn't wait to be able to bring her out to explore together.
