This could be someone's tattoo. And it'd be a good one. Expressive eyes.
Kind of weird if you think about it... JD is the archetypical hero from fantasy stories. His dad was the man who saved the world, but lost his best friend and lover in doing so, and only a couple of his old war buddies survived. Now JD's the man who's got to save the world from the old threat come anew, with his friends at his side and ol' Marcus behind him. Doesn't give anybody good odds of surviving.
Now all JD needs is some badass officer sideburns and an upgraded demeanor.
