August 2021 | 9.25 x 11.5 | Gouache Paints and Coloured Pencil on HotPress Watercolor Paper

When I did this painting, I had yet to have the pleasure of meeting Rick in person, only interactions on social media. He is one of the most positive spirits I've encountered online, and despite not having met - I'd considered him an actual friend; there are few "online only" people I feel that way about. That said, since then I HAVE met him in person. It was only once, but he was just as sweet and wonderful (and sexy) as I thought. But that's all beside the point of the painting...

Rick is super cute with one of the most wonderfully expressive faces and I really struggled to pick which picture of him to paint - there are so many great ones to choose from. I'm pleased with what I choose, and very happy with how the painting turned out. I put in a little extra effort into the background on this one than some of the other Bear Portraits I've done; I just really dug all the perspective lines created by the lights and the subway car. But of course, more than anything, I had a blast painting the subject. There will be more paintings of Rick - that's a promise.
