Torbernite - Former Homeworld Master Engineer and Kindergarten Technician

History:
Torbernite was one of Homeworld's most prolific engineers and kindergarten technicians, helping to produce the Empire's weapons and warships as well hundred's of thousands Quartz-Type gem soldiers that were deployed across all theaters of war. Her most famous achievement was the creation of the infamous Fireteam Lignite, an advanced commando unit comprised of six individually unique Jets with different skills and abilities. Unlike the Rubies, Amethysts, and other gem soldiers Torbernite had mass produced in the past, each Jet was painstakingly hand crafted with the precision and care of a master sculptor. She poured her heart and soul into each one of the Jets she created and as a result, developed an attachment to them so much so that she regarded the fireteam as her own children. Both loving and stern, Torbernite was the mother that handed her daughters their shields and their spears before they marched off into battle. After the destruction of her team at the hands of the Diamond's treachery, Torbernite fled from the empire with the help of 06, the last surviving member of Fireteam Lignite. She now operates out of an insurgent colony in the Andromeda Galaxy devoting her resources and intelligence into helping the last of her Jets crush the empire that had betrayed them.

Personal Details:
Torbernite has a natural gift when it comes to understanding technology. She made a habit of trying to reverse engineer any foreign technology her Jets came across and tried to see if she could incorporate it into her research and development of Homeworld's weapons and armor. Torbernite was naturally curious about other alien species where the Diamonds were only concerned with their destruction. As a result her Jets were the only gems in the military with access to experimental weapons and magic. Though not a warrior herself, Torbernite was more than capable of creating defensive measures to protect herself and if those failed, her daughters were there to defend her.

Weapons and Armor:
Lacking the skills and experience of a warrior, Torbernite used her skills as an engineer to fashion herself a weaponized suit. This suit incorporates the technology of different alien civilizations mixed with gem tech. Its most notable feature is its gravity harness that allows Torbernite to levitate at a low altitude and allows for frictionless omni-directional movement. It is also equipped with an inetertial dampener found on certain types of alien star fighters allowing Torbernite to fly at high speeds and stop on a dime without feeling the effects of inertia. The defense system is comprised of four independent destabilizer satellites that float around her. These satellites operate independently to defend Torbernite but can be controlled by thought via neural implants attached to her gem. They can fire bolts of plasma or concentrated beams of arc energy that can be set to both "destabilize" or "disintegrate." Unlike Homeworld's current line of gem destabilizers, Torbernites satellites are effective at neutralizing organic, synthetic, and geomorphic targets. This advanced destabilizer system can also be found on Lignite 05's mage staff.

I'm still trying to figure out how I want to present a story. I might do a web comic though.

Nah, just this gem. Her design was inspired by Forerunner armor.

It's a good idea for a crossover

Is she a leader, as in, is she in charge of a 'court'? That seems to be the implication with the Jets.

TheGraffitiSoul In reply to VioletArtifacts [2016-05-05 02:36:22 +0000 UTC]

She's not in charge of a court but she is in charge of something similar to a science division. In the case of the Jets, they were a creation commissioned by the Diamonds that became a passion project in which she put a little bit of herself into each Jet. That's why she considers herself their mother while she cares nothing for the Quarts gems she's created.

Ok, that looks pretty awesome. Really not sure if she's a fusion or not, mostly due to the fact that in the show, the "multiple arms" motif had been a fused gem's thing, with the exception of Garnet, of course.

She could be a fusion, who knows? I haven't gone that deep into her backstory.

Wait, aren't fusions for non-combat purposes banned?

I decided she wasn't a fusion. The additional arms were shapshifted in for improved multi-tasking.

Thanks, this design was little more complex than I would normally do for SU characters but it was fun to make.

I do too. Unfortunately, a character like this would be an absolute nightmare to animate.

OH MAN! I have a Fusion that has geodes for her arms and legs and there are always little crystals swarmed around them. THAT would ALSO be a bitch 0_0

Yup, our gems would have to be animated in 3D to maintain the complexity.
