*some comments that artists think of as bad but maybe they should read into them more:

1) is that a boy or a girl?:

apparently this is considered a bad question but I don’t get why! you created the character, just answer what gender this character is! girl, boy a character with no gender, it doesn’t matter! the person who asked is just curious.

2)can you teach me how to draw?:

this really shouldn’t be considered a bad question cause the person just thinks you’re a great artist and wants some advice, you can be an artist that can’t teach or just don’t feel confident teaching others, so tell them just that! maybe if you tell them “practice hard everyday” they’ll get salty about it but they’ll understand someday that “practice hard everyday” is the best kind of advice!

3) do you take free requests?:

maybe this person is just new and doesn’t know that you only do commisions. new artists tend to do free requests to get more popular so maybe they thought of you like that! just respectfully answer “no I don’t, sorry”, it can get monotonous but not everybody knows you.

4) I hate this ship but I love the art:

ummm that’s not bad at all, they’re just saying what they think. you might think to yourself “good for you I don’t care!”  so why should you care? they just complimented your art skills, they don’t have to be on the same shipping page as you.

5) can you design a logo for me?:

now I can understand that artist that didn’t learn about design can find that question annoying, but some artist did learn all about design, commercialism, and other advertisement endavours, so maybe that can be a good apportunity for them! you’re an artists that doesn’t do that stuff? just say no.

6) your character reminds me of *this character*:

now this is despised by most artists and I can get why, but you have to think “why did this person come to this conclusion?”, take a good look at the character they’re comparing yours with, tell yourself “hmm, oh yeah I can see the similarities!” than answer “yes I do see what you mean but I created this character out of my own imagination, this was purely coincidental!”; and if you did base your character out of that other character don’t hide it! tell the truth “yes I was inspired by this character; good on you for noticing!”

“reminds me of” is not ad bad as “this is a ripp-off of”.

[remember, not everyone with comments like these is a troll or a hater, they might just have the purest of intentions; they may word it poorly sometimes tho]
[if you don't agree with me that's fine,if you hate these advices that's fine too and if you think that it's not worth it talking to commenters like that maybe just try it, you might make new friends; and if they're actual assholes just move on.]

*here are some actual bad comments:
  • I fixed it for you! you’re welcome!
  • why are you always drawing this *series* or *this character*?
  • why did you stop drawin the things I like?
  • do you have an ACTUAL job tho?

well actualy they almost all have an awful side

it just depend on how the person use it, exemples

1 i saw it being used for non-binary, agender etc ocs and when the artist answered they were like "yeah but do they have a d!ck or a pµssy?" wich is a disgusting way of thinking

2-3-5 just those entitled people that will want to DESTROY your internet life if you refuse anything for them

4 can also be used as "you're really great at art why do you waste it on that sh!t?"

and finaly 6 can be used as saying you have no originality or that you copied and you're an art thief (wich isn't copy btw people don't even know the real meaning nowadays....)

they all depend on who say it, how they formule it and how the conversation evolve

again i am not saying everyone is like that, they also mean what you said

I see point 6 almost every time. It might sound like an insult to the artist's imagination and perhaps "originality", but similarities are almost everywhere imo. For example, species. Even I sometimes see similarities of style mostly on shoujo manga artist (big eyes, school uniform, hair, etc). I hope people can take it more easy and try to give explanation of it. Dont feel ashamed or insulted. People are curious too. Try to be more positive.
Sorry if this sounds offending @@

Do you know what, I'm like point 6, like I'm not trying to say "Taking inspiration is bad and blah, blah, blah...", I'm like "I like how [Character in the art] is like [Character I know], that's awesome!"

I'm the person who loves references (Pretty much 99% of art is a reference to a Meme, Movie, TV Show, etc.), and when I find some, I don't mean it to demean their creation or anything like that, instead I applause at them for doing some "research" for their characters.

P.S: And that one of a few reasons why I like 4th-wall breakers like Deadpool, She-hulk, etc.

These are all very good, sometimes we could use a bit more positivity.

I find the gender question particularly interesting to bring up. I happen to have an agender character, but actually few people consider to ask me this and they just assume the character's gender based off of their traits. (And as the artist, I allow people to use whatever pronouns make them more comfortable. Ya'll can headcanon about my OC, that's fine with me.)

Personally, I say option one can be considered a 'Bad Comment', but only in the Circumstance that the Character's Gender is Obvious, such as the Character clearly being a Girl, or a Boy.

But If they aren't as obvious, such as being a Plump Bunny that seems to have makeup, but no obvious Gender traits, that is when the question is a good comment.

Basically, it's a case of the situation changing the comment. If the character is obviously a girl, i.e. They are buck-naked and showing off genitalia and tits, but the comment still appears and asks the Dumb question, then it's a Troll comment.

But if they aren't as obvious, i.e, their build is rather neutral, and they aren't showing anything that would be obvious, then it's a good comment, because the image isn't being very clear.

It still can't be a "bad question" because it's a question that's born from pure curiosity most of the time and nothing more. As someone who's misgendered nearly every time I voice chat with people for the first time, due to my deeper voice, I can honestly say that question is one I'm very familiar with as it's directed towards me a lot, along with people just assuming I'm a boy because of how I sound.

Not everything you'd think is obvious is obvious to someone else, especially in this day and age where gender expression isn't how it used to be.  As for the case where genitalia is being shown and someone's still asking, well, that's a very specific situation I've never seen before XD

There is a Difference between a non-visual video, and having the picture RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. After all, I remember watching Britain's got Talent once... A Male was able to perfectly Mimick a Woman's Voice. Had he clearly not been male, and on telly, he would have confused people.

You'd be surprised. And in quite a few cases, even when the Bits are NOT on Display, their attire is practically showing their Junk off.

But that is also Why I hate 'Dickgirls'. It's basically a Trap, but up to eleven, and they are missing the anatomy that actually makes them a Girl, that is, their vagina.

And before you ask, there is a Difference between Hermaphrodite, and Dickgirl. One has both Genitalia, the other is apparently a Girl with only a Dick... Which, to be honest, is what I call, a "Boy with too much estrogen", and yes, a Guy taking too much estrogen can grow breasts.

And since Deviantart art doesn't have any way of blacklisting tags, same with Furaffinity, it gets frustrating.

It's like...... why don't you just.... use that comment to try to understand why it was made..... to learn.... most people who make those kind of comments don't do it to try to stir you up or anything. They have a genuine comment, with a genuine thought behind it.

Yeah chill characters are some of the best, being able twist negatives into something hilarious, which is something I've never seen in a misgendered character, they usually get super offended or shy about it. Bonus points when said character is mistaken for being way younger and gets free meals XD

    THANKS FOR MAKING THIS!

(Also what do you mean by “I fixed this for you?” Like they edited the drawing?)

Also, here’s one I came up with you can add if you want. Don’t have to, it’s just a suggestion.

”Maybe you could try drawing (...) in the future, I think you’d do it well!”
This isn’t necessarily a request or a demand, but more of a suggestion. It’s basically saying “wow, you’re art of (...) is so good, I think you might be able to draw (...) really well too!” You can politely say no if you don’t want to try drawing it, but sometimes it’s fun to try it out.
(Feel free to change the wording)

It wasn't really helpful as the group had a thing where you couldn't change the ref sheet until you had enough points (not da points) and when i went to check what art they did they had none.

By 'fixing' they asked for a request, I asked them for a reference and they gave me a lot of art to work from so I thought the two didn't need such specific clothes. After I posted, they told me to fix it, but I had to do other requests so I asked them to wait. Afterwards, they told me they would fix it themselves and they did. When they 'fixed' it it was completely out of line and I'm rambling now so Ima shut up.

I love it when people comment on my artwork! We get into quite the discussion and have a lot of fun! Luckily, I rarely get any negative comments! Honestly, the worst comments I get are when my mistakes are pointed out, like I mispell a word or I missed an important detail that somehow flew over my head. But those are more helpful than anything. I just get frustrated with myself before going back to fix my mistake(s) and thanking the person who pointed it out to me so that I didn't go on showing my work without realizing I had made such an obvious mistake.
However, I have gotten comments on some of my work where some creep just bashed and hated on me for something completely unrelated. For example, I posted a screenshot of an online Pokemon quiz I took to show off what answer I got and wanted to see what others thought of it. Yet, for whatever reason, some jerk commented on it saying that my family and I should die. I don't get why this guy was so hateful towards me, but it really did upset me in multiple reasons. One: This jerk didn't even know me and, at the time, I was the only one in my family with a DeviantArt account so they really shouldn't have had any reason to hate them. Two: From what I could tell about this guy's anger, my works that he commented on had nothing to do with what made him so angry. Three: I'm pretty sure he hated me for some stupid lie a complete creep had been spreading about me despite the fact that I was very open about my utter hatred for the liar. I don't really mind the things you listed that are apparently annoying comments to most people, but hateful comments towards you and have nothing to do with your work really is the worst. Especially if you try to keep a positive atmosphere on your account but some jerk just keeps spamming your account with hate messages. I really don't get it. If you don't like someone, don't give them the time of day. Hang out with people you actually do like rather than spamming people you dislike for just hate them. Now that's an annoying comment.

The "I fixed it for you!!1!" crowd needs to be ostracized from every community possible. That's such a slap in the face, especially when all they do is recolour over the art you spent all the effort on. Even if they think an art piece is problematic, that doesn't give them the right to just slap an edit on there to make it "better".
