Description okay, okay - before you call me out/report ANYTHING to the dA overlords, etc. I OPENLY ADMIT TO TOTALLY RIPPING THIS OFF -> [link]

for my digital painting class, we pretty much got to choose any painting and try recreating it from scratch, to like.. learn, and stuff. no eyedrop tools used, no tracing.. just raw copying, and a little bit of learning. and stuff.

there's a lot of drawing inaccuracies in this when matched up with the original, but for the most part the color and values are good, and i learned a lot more about controlling edges and about bringing my own stuff to a more finished level.

hooray for copying people!

dude this is awesome as, even for a copy, i need to reserve more time for painting...

I'm glad you posted this. It's really cool to go back and forth between the two. Did you send a link to the original artist? I'm sure he'd be flattered to hear that of all the art int he world you chose to emulate his.

Again... these classes are doing you good. Keep it up.

Cool but...why post it if you know it's just a copy? Wouldn't you want to post only original works that you learned from this to create?

on third thought, i also think this post also serves as showing people it's okay to copy things - and encourages it, as long as you have the right intentions behind doing so.

thanks for the thoughtful comment (for i have thought much after reading it. heh.)

i use to eyeball some art which i found to be interesting and not so hard to do...i use to do this to improve my skills..i think its even a good way to do that

interesting comment. my initial response would be, why post anything that's done from observation - but i know this isn't the same - pretty much just blatant copying.

on second thought though, this post is more like a journal entry for me and an opportunity to point people to a cool painting if they haven't seen it before. i rarely ever use the whole "journal" feature of dA anyways.
