Description
I was bowled over by Jerry's stunning sculpting skills - he took my drawings and using his expertise and flair breathed three dimensional life into the flat forms on the page. The textures, forms and expressions are all wonderfully handled and as a result this sculpture and the finished piece looks spectacular from every angle. All the various faces were supposed to show transition and Jerry certainly brought life and movement into those expressions.
----------------------------------------
My concept here is along the lines of a mutant bear demon who assimilates a likeness onto his upper torso of anything he kills and devours ( but only until the spirit has been fully digested ) I assure you he doesn't look half as bad on days when his diet consists mainly of ants and prickly pears or bowls of cold, warm, hot porridge!

Hahah
Thank you for the weirdest moment ever!!
I was just contemplating designing a very similar mask but instead featuring lots of twisted clown faces (and possibly a balloon or two) ....and I log in and your face peers at me...YIKES!!!

Is the "main" face, the one the wearer looks through, visible here? And if so,is it the eyeless,huge-lower-lipped face in the two top pictures,or the monster with blue teeth in the third pic?

Unlike anything you've seen before...this is a highly advanced mask - look it even has bluetooth!
And whats more, as if all those contorted faces arent enough, to add to the disorientation the wearer peers out through that creatures mouth -- yup its as if you've been EATEN!!

Thanks buddy, but to be fair credit where credit is due, its the Jerry Constantine factor that done the mind blowing here.

Ah, in that case, please relay the following message to Mr. Jerry Constantine - "You just blew my mind, buddy. Sincerely, Kyle Wilson."
Although, there's a certain Gurch factor here, that I like as well.

For a minute there I thought you'd turned your talents to sculpting and joined me in the mud pushing game! The design is very you! No way were you going to design your average Halloween mask!

Nope, I'd be more adept at taking a sculpture such as this and modelling it into square lumps of clay!! besides i know how much space, time and skill something like this requires and i only have two out of the three
However as a teen I did spend hours sculpting , casting and painting horror masks, an enjoyable side effect of my exposure to Fangoria.

The Thing was awesomeness unleashed!!! Its easily one of my all time favourite movies, the special effect work on that was ground breaking mind-blowing! Melt any two bodies together and it instantly makes people think of the Thing.
I wonder what happened to Rob after that film? I never heard anything about his work after that gig, you'd think that The Thing showcase would have landed him all the top movie jobs.

you're probably familiar with his work after the thing and dont realize it......meg knucklebones and the darkness from legend, robocop, total recall, etc. i dont think hes in the fx biz anymore....which is too bad cause he had a wicked imagination.

Yep youre right, i thought he'd done those movies prior to John Carpenters monsterpiece! Mr. Bottin sure set the bar high with his Thing creatures , I suppose no other movie could give him opportunity to be as mesmerizing as that again.
I do hope it wasnt the popularity of CGI effects that cause him to hang his hat up
I didnt intend to but after all this Bottin talk with you, i think i might just post up my Rob Bottin picture next.

im curious myself why he isnt still around. most of the really good fx guys (like rick baker) were able to transition into the digital side of things relatively smoothly. bottin even said in the fantastic flesh fx documentry that he's not opposed to cgi..so yeah, dont know whats up.
