I've been on a roll with commisions lately, making progress on all of them, and then I saw Flutterbat.

Temptation.

Well I wanted to resist, but the pull was too strong... so I made a small Flutterbat plushie to get it out of my system XD. Now back to commissions!

: I am about to pounce on that bright, red, juicy apple. (blushes) That is, if you don't mind. (giggles)

She's a really nice colour, what colour minky did you use? I always find yellow a bit too pale, this colour looks much better

Thank you ...I actually used yellow for her lol, but it was a bolt directly from Shannon Fabrics, so I don't know if that makes a difference (maybe I just got a dye lot that was a bit darker?).
You could try Sunshine or Lemon (Lemon might be a bit dark though).

So cute! How did you make the inside of the ears? They look sooo good!

Thank you!

I digitized the embroidery work for the inside of the ears and embroidered them by machine like the eyes & cutie marks ^_^

Ahhh...I thought it looked like embroidery. Very nice design. Really show accurate. Yours was one of the first Flutterbat plushies I'd seen. I'm only about half way done with mine.

Yep ^-^
If you're ever in doubt, 90% of the time it'll be embroidery lol. I do applique some ear pieces on, but I most definitely did not have the right color to do that in this case (plus it's very small so an applique wouldn't look right). Thank you!
I did see yours, it's looking really good so far! Have any plans on how you're going to do the ears?

DisneyKitten96 In reply to TheHarley [2014-02-22 07:42:57 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! My best option would probably be to applique them. I have some fabric that might work for it. It's not minky, it's a smooth fleece. But I think the smoothness on the inside of her ears would have a nice affect.

Thank you!! I saw yours went relatively high, I'm glad the buyer followed through with it! I was actually worried for you lol. I've seen far too many plush auctions spike and then the buyer just disappears.

LunarBunnie In reply to TheHarley [2014-01-04 06:05:07 +0000 UTC]

Same here! I was concerned during the entire auction, however I started to calm down once I saw that a few of the highest bidders had positive ratings. Right now Paypal is actually giving the buyer a rough time, so she's having to send payments. It's pretty ridiculous, but definitely not her fault :c

TheHarley In reply to LunarBunnie [2014-01-04 06:12:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh I bet! Well, that's definitely good. eBay is always a hit or miss for me I could only imagine how excited and nervous you must have been. Ugh Paypal. They always have to complicate things! I know that shipping to other countries can be tricky (or even not permitted) when you're dealing with something worth so much (like valued over $500), is it related to that? Well at least you've figured out a way to get around it.

why cant homemade plushes be $12 or less?? hundreds of dollars or more sounds greedy to me....

PinkuArt In reply to ILoveMyLilPony [2014-01-05 09:09:06 +0000 UTC]

go make a plushie yourself, then put it up for sale for $12.

FireflyFarm In reply to ILoveMyLilPony [2014-01-04 18:53:24 +0000 UTC]

$12?!?!?  Seriously?  It takes a solid 8-12 hours of work for a plush like this.  We don't work in Sweat shops in China,...

But, if you want your own plushies learn to make them yourself, it's what I did a year ago,...

LunarBunnie In reply to ILoveMyLilPony [2014-01-04 05:50:43 +0000 UTC]

What's greedy is someone expecting something for nothing. You really have no idea how labor extensive plushies are to make, not to mention how costly high quality materials are. Some of us, like myself, do this for a living. Fanmade crafts are nothing like cheap, mass produced goods and we are not sweat shop workers. We spend dozens of hours creating plushies by hand with our own patterns making sure everything looks just right. It's a luxury to own artwork and if you cannot afford it, then it is no fault of ours and shame on you for thinking we owe you our hard work for next to nothing.

TheHarley In reply to ILoveMyLilPony [2014-01-04 05:41:19 +0000 UTC]

Materials alone cost more than $12.

This plushie took me three days to create and is my primary source of income.

Once you deduct fees (10% for eBay, 4% for Paypal) $150 becomes $129.

If I don't even include materials this would be just over $5/hr. Less than minimum wage.

That's why handcrafted plushies are the prices that they are, it's not greed. A skilled artisan should make more than someone flipping burgers, not less.
