Description
I've embarked on a noble quest... a blanket with my precious UmbreonI haven't abandoned this quest. Although it has been a few years since I started *cough* over 4 *cough* I will eventually finish!
I recently added to the blanket, I probably won't add any progress shots until I have some more progress lol.Β
[Edit was made on March 17th 2015]
Progress shots:
Here's my pattern, drawn on graph paper (6 pieces taped together), which I will follow to create the awesomeness of Umbreon in blanket form.
***REVISED*** I've made the pattern easier to read for anyone who wishes to use it (please credit me if you do use it, I spent a lot of time on it)...by redoing it on the computer
From my estimates, Umbreon alone should be about 65in x 64in... and should take quite a long time. Check out my gallery for my progress!

I've been doing some spring cleaning and I found my progress on this blanket and was inspired to work on it some more thanks to your recent reminder that I made this lol. Hope your progress is going quicker than mine! I just spent nearly 2 hours doing 35 squares xD.Β

Wow! That's awesome! Well, right now I've kinda hit a bump in the road. I ran out of gray yarn and I haven't been able to run to to store to get any. I haven't really been paying attention to how long it takes me to make the squares. I just go until my hands get tired... Or I remember that I have homework.

Ahhh I gotcha, what brand of yarn are you using?Β
I actually hit the same road block when I first started, then I wound up buying 5 big skeins of gray and they were a sliiiiiiiiiightly different color because of the dye lot. There's a few yarn brands that don't do lots and always have consistent colors...but I was using a cheap red heart.
I TOTALLY get the homework thing. That's what happens to me lol. I just usually keep track of the time.

I'm using red heart. It was the closest (store-wise) and the cheapest. I'm a full-time college student with little money and no car.
I've also started another project with the leftover white yarn I have. I'm going to start making some dolls to sell Etsy so I can have some extra money. I'll post some pictures when I'm done.

Believe me, I understand that. I'm the same (full time college student with little money) except I have a truck, which requires pretty much any left over money I have to keep it legal, running, and gas in the tank.
(I still use red heart for personal projects- unless I can splurge a little or simply soft is on sale because they don't have dye lots)
That's a good idea ^_^ ~ good luck!

I have to rely on my sister (also a full-time college student) to drive me everywhere. But I help pay for gas and things (we share an apartment on campus). Although, most places I would need to get to are within walking distance. I just don't like to walk alone.
And thanks!

I just finished the head to this pattern. It took me a little less then a year and I used two inch granny squares. Β and its fits a queen size bed. Β Thank you for the pattern.

I'm going to start a blanket using your patternΒ (Which is awesome, by the way), if that's okay. My first blanket project ever! I'll let you know when I finish.

This is incredible >.<
Do you mind if my mother and I attempt this? She knows how to crochet and this would be a good opportunity to learn or end up making a quilt instead XD
Just curious if your estimates for the final size is 65in x 64in then how big are you making the squares? also that is a lot of squares I'm gonna have to count them to figure out how much of each colour I will need lol

TheHarley In reply to EclairDuVerite [2013-05-16 04:08:05 +0000 UTC]
Thank you ^.^
I don't mind at all. Once you finish (if you post it online) I'd love to see just comment on here with a link or send me a message or something. I'm actually still not done with this blanket lol. It was put away when I moved and I haven't found it yet >.<...
I was making the squares about 1in x 1in, but when I wound up measuring the progress so far, they wound up being a fraction of an inch short lol. So it's 66 squares across (I believe...). I actually counted up the colors a while back (when I first started this) on my original chart. I have no idea where it is right now, but if I come across it in the near future I'll let you know lol.

Will do!
1 x 1 o.O wow okies can you please tell me what stitches you were using for it? its hard to tell from the progress pics

TheHarley In reply to EclairDuVerite [2013-05-24 03:21:24 +0000 UTC]
It's just basic US single crochet
I chained 6 to start, then did 1 sc in each stitch back (so 5 sc in that row)...then it's 5 rows total. Pretty basic ^^... Keeping it simple is the charm!

cool, I'm not sure I counted it all correctly, but I counted over 2000 squares >.<
I made a counter for each colour (lost count a couple times)

I think I'm gonna try to make something now, THANK YOU, I will credit.

I'm glad this has helped you! It's kind of a simple way to make them, I know some people use granny squares for theirs...but when I started making this, I was teaching myself how to crochet.

I really love the idea of a crocheted blanket, I may like to start crocheting after browsing through your gallery. They're really awesome And you making a tutorial on it would be fabulicious.
Ohh and I'd like to inform you that I'll be using your pattern to cross-stitch umbreon using your pattern, and I'll definitely link/note it to you once its done. Just fyi.

That would be fantastic! I love crocheting, it's so much fun ^.^ --knowing that I inspired someone else to start would make my day (a tutorial for the blanket? or just crocheting in general?)
Oooh I'd definitely like to see it when you finish ^.^ thank you!

Well if you could combine both would be great, but I guess being specific in making a blanket crochet tut would be better as crocheting in general would be TMI, methinks.
Yup, sure will. Gotta go stock up some strings first though
