A not so anime version of the homunculus Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist... and my own personal favorite of the group!Envy is a male! Not borderline and shouldnt be treated as so (but each to their own
) - so taking into mind traditional comic men often have exaggerated bodies, I decided to exaggerate his muscles whilst still trying to show a slim build.I also always thought Envy was the baddest of the group - the most maniacal - so I tried to capture that craziness in his smile and eyes.
Anyway hope you enjoy it hehe
Oh and yes - I realise he looks like the Joker

Yeah it was a spontanious design I must admit. I dont like it all that much now that I look at it. I think I was too drawn in by the joker at the time and everything I designed ended up looking like him LOL

Me too lol thats why I wanted to be different. Since I was drawing him in comic form rather than manga I exaggerated his build lol but yeh its meant to look like a slim build lol...ooooops

Envy is supposed to be an it but like you said with comic books there aren't really "it" characters. It's either muscle men or busty females.

Hahaha he is creepy I suppose. Yeah in comics I think its probably hard to determine an androgynous character without looking too much like a male or a female. I decided to just stick to male because thats what he was before he died. Though I gotta say I was confused for a long time in the anime. Even the voice was feminine!
And thank you for the compliment. I dont think my inking skills are much - Ive just taught myself to get used to using fountain pens and india ink as opposed to markers. They give more line dimension

Exactly. His original self (William/Wilhelm...I think that is his canon original name) was male so it makes sense as to why he would be considered male. I consider him male myself as he represents more male characteristics than female. Ah Wendy Powell is an amazing voice actress for him xD

He looks more male to me but the costume was bizarre and thats why i was confused. Never seen a man wear a top like that and a foldover skirt. The voice too was very confusing
Its alot like Frieza from DBZ if you think about it. For the first half of the Namek saga I thought he was female but then he was addressed as 'he' and I was pretty shocked.

LOL!! Yeah. His skort is hilarious though and you aren't the only one watching the show who got greatly confused. Some people still think he's female and I've seen some terrifying doujins/fan-comics expressing this.

LOL Thats exactly why I drew him this way now! Ive seen some shocking EnvyxEdward doujinshi and its so wrong I mean, had Envy actually been female it still would have been Edwards half sister coming from the same father.

i also think he should always look this manly...LOL i dont like it when theres this man character, but you don't know for sure because of the body...lol and how do you get the lines to be so nice, and the paper?..do you draw this with pen and fix it up on the computer? how do you get it to look so clean?

Hahaha well in the series he was supposed to be in between but thats too complicated for my mind because most of the time he acted like a man so I decided to make sure he looked it. I use a fountain ink pen for my lines, I never use drawing markers. I scan it into photoshop at about 400 Dpi then I go to adjustments:Levels and I bring the black bar up until the black is dark enough and I bring the white part up so that everything that is white is a very intense white. Then I resize the picture and its ready

Oh and its important to use a paper with a smooth surface so that the pen doesnt get caught on it. Thats how you get a smooth finish
