Description "Imagine a tall, thin man, with an iron constitution and youthful blond hair that made him look a good ten years younger than his fifty. His big eyes darted incessantly around behind imposing glasses; his nose, long and thin, was like a sharpened blade; unkind people even claimed it was magnetized, and picked up iron filings. Absolute slander: it only picked up snuff, but in rather large quantities to tell the truth."

So I've been reading Journey to the Centre of the Earth (by Jules Verne) again, and decided to do a bit of illustration. This is how I imagine Professor Otto Lidenbrock, which may be very different to how you do, but he was very clear in my head.

Expect a fair few more fanarts. It is an amazing book, after all. Only a sketch, so may be scrapped soon, but 'til then, enjoy~

He really seems to be that strong personality in the discription. The pose really reflects it all. And his eyes...you did it really well!

Is it any good? the book I mean?

Thank you very much for the lovely comment~

&& it's one of my favourite EVER books. It has really beautiful imagery and captures the imagination so much. Jules Verne's stories in general are just astounding. One thing is, due to its nature, it is VERY sciencey, and will often go on tangents about the categorisation of certain minerals or the like, but it doesn't detract in my opinion. Even if I don't understand a word of that bit.

In short: YOU MUST READ IT. <3 <3

Hehe, if I ever have the time, I will take a look in it. I first need to get a library pass though lol.

It's a fairly short story, so won't take you that long. If it looks long, it's probably half consisting of an immense foreword. xD

But yeah. Library pass. I borrowed my friend's. Whattafail.

SEE, I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW YOU DREW THINGS LIKE THIS. This pleases me so much! I have never properly read that book so I don't know the character, but I do really like his design, it really reflects the description! There is something very youthful about him, but you can tell he is older. What did you draw this with, marker? I really like it anyway, the lines look digital but with that nice, paper texture underneath.

I HAVE HUNDREDS OF THESE TYPE OF THINGS. I always felt it wasn't my 'proper' art, so I wouldn't put it up. But it's like... I always draw these things. WHY THE HELL AM I HOARDING THEM? xD

Butbutbut thank you~
It's one of my favourite ever books, and I really recommend it. Verne always makes me feel so inspired. :3

&&& it's just a scanned in pencil sketch. Did the levels on photoshop, added the sandstone texture and used the cutout filter. For some reason it makes my crappy sketches look all smooth without me actually knowing anything about digital art.
