Could also make a good amount of money off of this with it being free, as it shows what they can do, and thus gets him customers.
Then also, not everything needs to revolve around making money. If he's making this for fun, why make it into a business venture? It could take the fun out of it, as then it puts standards and stress on him to get everyone happy with it.
