Description
So for anyone who doesn't know, in Revelation four living creatures are described... each one has a different face (either lion, man, eagle or ox), 6 wings, and eyes everywhere. According to Biblical Scolars the animals are supposed to represent qualities of God, (strength/power, wisdom/intelligence, majesty and servitude respectively).Because I feel that the Cherubim (described in Ezekiel 1) is very similar to the Living Creatures, I created parts of the sculpture (man's body, calf's feet) with that description in mind since Revelation does not go into detail about the body of the beasts.
So this is just my concept and the.. base of the sculpture. Later I'll add a layer of "snot" paper so it will harden and become smooth. I will add the wings seperately along with the mane (which I imagine will be made out of thread of some sort). When I'm finished with the sculpture part I'll mount him on a piece of cardboard that has a painting/drawing of the other half of the leg, so it appears that the Cherubim has climed out of the picture. I'm very excited because this is my second sculpture.
That's all. 8)

This is so cool! You did this with masking tape?! o:
Have you ever read those books by Madeline L'Engle- A Wrinkle In Time and the books after? I believe there's a reference to a cherubim in one of them, described as something with a lot of eyes and wings. It's been years since I've read them, but I'm pretty sure it relates pretty well.
It's interesting how people usually think cherubims are fat little baby angels.

Yeah, masking tape and paper. The hand is made out of masking tape only though.
I did read those books in like 5th grade. I think I do remember a Cherubim, and the 4 old ladies turning into angels.. very vaugely do I remember. Such a long time ago..
Yeah. Cherubims are like.. totally hoss. The Renaissance artists probably didnt want to scare all of the hard-core Catholics, back then. They probably would've seen such a creature as blasphemy or herecy, and burned the artist at the stake.
