Tokotas Summer Event
Episode 2: Collection Quest
"What brings you this far out?" Chief Thunderfeather asked, Rainwater slowly shifting forward from beneath her. "No one knows exactly what's lurking around here; it's dangerous to travel alone."
Yikkan was getting giddy from the dire's presence, but Will somehow managed to keep him under reign. "I'm helping Professor Mitchel," he said with as much dignity as he could muster.
"Ah," the older woman raised her eyebrows. "A special mission?"
"Well, not exactly...I'm helping with the maps."
"The maps?"
"Yes! We're mapping out the Valley!"
"Oh, that's very good. You're brave to come out here by yourself; did the Professor appoint you personally?"
Again, Will found it odd to be called brave. Professor Mitchell had given the compliment before, but even coming from Chief Thunderfeather he didn't feel it was very true. "Well, actually," he began to explain, lowering his gaze, "I just thought it was a little gesture. I want to help, but I'm not really sure how to do it..."
Thunderfeather chuckled at this. It was friendly and good-natured, but Will still couldn't help feeling small inside. "Young man, you shouldn't be embarrassed about trying to lend a hand. You've got a lot to learn. Believe it or not, there are plenty more ways to help the expedition than just drawing maps."
Will perked up a bit.
"But," Thunderfeather continued, "I'm busy, just like you. Running a camp takes a lot more work than you kiddos realize. You're going to have to find your own way from here."
Yikkan was getting jittery again, even though Rainwater and her handler were turning to leave. Will dropped his gaze even further. He had been trying to help in little ways, the only ways he thought he could, but he still had no idea where to continue.
"Hey," the Chief's voice broke out from the edge of the trees. "If you're lost, keep up with the small things. Start with some bones. Everybody's looking for them." And then she and Rainwater were gone.
Taking a deep breath, Will patted Yikkan on the head. "Come on, then," he said, stroking his tokota's ears. "Lets go find some bones."

I'm actually really proud of how this turned out
The water was surprisingly fun to work on, and doing backgrounds has actually gotten a lot easier over the course of drawing for the Summer Event
