Description
Over the years, I've met people who seem to think that if you write fanfiction, that this makes you a crappy author.What. The. Frick?
I know people who I've only seen write fanfiction, and they're some of the best writers I've ever seen! They could probably beat out half the authors out there nowadays. (you know who you are.)
Being a fanfiction writer does not make you a bad author. It makes you an author who likes to write about what he/she is a fan of.
'Nuff said.

Trust me, my fanfictions are NOT crappy. Yeah 1-2 people faved me on Fanfiction.net but I'm still going to write! Even if they talk bad about my writing behind my back!

Honestly, crappy writing exists in droves, whether it is fanfiction or original fiction. And good writing exists in both too. And not all good authors automatically start of being naturally... well... good. They might have potential, but don't always have the experience to utilize that talent. Sometimes you have to write crap before you start writing good stuff. It may take a while, it might take consulting a lot of people.
Anyway, said my opinion.

I know. I was just talking about people who presumed all fanfiction was bad when I made this.
I've both read and written my share of crappy writing, too, trust me. I can't even bear to look at my old writing. I know people aren't born good writers. If they were, I can think of a few bad writers who might have actually written good literature.
Nowadays this stamp is a bit of an irony because I neither write nor read fanfiction anymore.
And thanks for the .

Indeed! When it comes to SW, I've seen fanfic writers who write waaaaaayyyyyy better than the professional EU authors.

I must admit I don't really read SW EU fanfiction. For that matter, I haven't read many of the novels, either (except the Thrawn Trilogy and Outbound Flight, which I loved), so I'll have to take your word on that one. But I've seen in a lot of fandoms where some of the fanfiction writers could do better writing than the professionals.

Very true! One should write what sparks their imagination, be it fanfiction or original stories. And while there are some bad writers out there, Fanfiction does not automatically equal bad writing!

I'm somewhat satisfied with what I write. I write mostly original work nowadays, but I did complete a fanfic about a week and a half ago. I like to think I'm a halfway decent author.

Ugh I remember my first Naruto mary sue...I didn't have a Fanfiction.Net account or a DA,but now that I think about she was a mary sue I mean really: An eleven year old girl, who had no parents (that doesn't make a character a Sue though, but mine gained so much sympathy from others),was pretty strong for her age,was disliked by Ino and Sakura and she disliked them greatly, had a nine tailed demon I think...yeah.

Hmm. I had one character about four years ago who, looking back now, I realize had definite Mary Sue traits. Or at the very least, was an author insert. She was way too much like me. I finally realized that, when I can go through a story and make a list of all the things she had in common with me, maybe it was time to give her a good working-over. Nowadays she's still one of my OCs, but a lot less Sue-ish. She still needs some work, though, but she's got potential.

I mean I gave her traits that were blatantly obvious. Anyone who knew me would have recognized them in her.
But yeah, now most of my characters are nothing like me at all.

Yeah neither are mine, well I'm careful with how I describe them but some idiots like to jump to conclusions like if someone has a crush on your OC a canon character and your OC is not interested in them,it shows they are a mary sue or something...how?

Just because one isn't the best writer, and just because one isn't the best writer and writes fanfics still doesn't make one a bad author. Some people are just better at some things than others, is all.
What I mean by this stamp is that some people believe that everyone who writes fanfiction must be a horrible author. This is not the case, so this is me telling those people that just because some people prefer to write fanfiction instead of what they consider to be "original" work, does not mean the fanfiction writer MUST be horrible. I've seen brilliant work by people who only write fanfiction, so...

Seriously the truth, you said it. I know writers on Ff.net who blow my mind at how good they are. As a fanfic writer (although I tend to post my work on fanfiction.net because I'm trying to keep my DA photography, original writing, and traditional art only...in case someone notices). Anyways, there are the people who care about grammar, plot, characterization, who have the time to get things betaed, and who do care about how they write.
Besides it is a practice of craft and I write my own original things as well on the side

That's what I'm saying. I've seen many writers who make me go "wow, this isn't professionally written?" because it's that good. I know someone in particular who could go professional with her work, if the characters weren't copyrighted. There are people out there who write fanfiction exclusively, and they're brilliant at it. Just because one doesn't own the characters doesn't mean they're not extremely talented at writing them.
Usually I post my stories to both sites; a few are dA-exclusive, and one (the extended version of a fanfic) is on dA, whereas the original is on ff.net.
I also do a bit of original character writing; a lot of my work on that front, however, isn't completed.

I once saw a stamp that commented that Fafiction was the lowest form of entertainment. They mentioned that they only thought most was bad
It got worse though when another person said "Fanfiction is the lowest common denominator no excsues and no exceptions" I think I held back a lot by only saying taht they sounded pretentious.
It would be so cool if a really good ( or even decent)author became well-known and mentioned that fanfiction made them better.

Yeah, it's people like that, that just irk me to no end.
I mean, my best work is fanfiction. I've got people turning my work into art. As I said, I know someone who's looking to get her work published. I also know someone who has gone professional.
And all the great comic book writers out there? What do you think they're writing? Most of them don't actually own the characters they write about, so really, isn't that a type of fanfiction in and of itself?
Fanfiction is really a great way to get better at writing. People need to realize this.

I've got one character who I made about five years ago, who has done a complete 180 from who he used to be. I've got the OC I mentioned. I've got three more characters who I'm still perfecting.
And a few minor, who I'm considering doing away with.
