Description Here is another piece coming at you.
So far it's just colored pencil and I'm super happy with how rich it's coming out
Follow me on twitter to see more progress [link]

The paper I used is Rives bfk printmaking paper.
So far it's only prismacolor pencil, just Poppy Red on top of the paper.
Then white for the highlights and Rouge Toscan (red) for the darker values.
All nicely blending with that blending stump.
I went trough about 3 Poppy Red pencils to get that base down.
I usually would start with a watercolor background.... but I forgot, ha. seriously.
The next step is adding Water-soluble wax pastels (Caran D'Ache) on top of the color pencil.
This is a new step in my process.
The pastels are freakn amazing though, I strongly recommend using then over your pencils

I'll keep you guys posted on more process.
I wanted to try and do a video for this one but had to start it faster then I intended.
Soon though guys, soon!!

I'm on an art school, studying art with fabrics but I'm really fond of drawing and coloring stuff. I'm really concerned about that you can learn a lot more by yourself or sharing opinions with artists through the net and in books than in art schools actually.

I have great ideas for drawings on my mind but I don't really have patience to make them because I never get the results I achieve, so it's pretty frustrating...

Anyways, I've never tried prismacolors, I don't even know the texture they have or anything but I think you've achieved such great result with them! I love drawings with women and I love this bold colors, but the best is the shape. It looks completely gorgeous.

Plus, how are you gonna add wax colors over all that so saturated red? does it get fixed? or how...gosh there're too many questions and I'm seriously looking forward the finish result!

well your art school concerns are correct, you don't have to go to school to be an artist and you can learn everything on your own. However art school makes it so you HAVE to wake up and learn everyday + you get the added bonus of learning through others. There are major pros and cons for each side.
I really enjoyed my school experience but I don't enjoy the debt I'm in...

No I am not fixing the piece before I put pastels down. The are water-soluble and they mix well with the wax based prismacolor pencils.

Ooooh so they get mixed on the paper! As I read water and wax, I instantly thought they weren't gonna get mixed!
Are prismacolor pencils very expensive? seeing the awesome result you get makes me wanna try them a lot!

I wonder...have you considered on making some tutorials?

theirison In reply to silentbyacutthroat [2011-12-09 15:42:28 +0000 UTC]

No they are pretty cheap when it comes to pencils, maybe $1.15 pencil. not bad.

Yeah I am going to make a tutorial, it's just really time consuming and I have to find the time

Wow -that is a lot of red pencil Erik! However the base around the bust and arms looks wonderfully flat and graphic- I know you'll work back into it, but for now it looks so rich and syrupy. I've just got off 6 months of painting with oils for my solo show (yes oils- I'm such an art snob!) and working with a bit of pencil seems like such a refreshing change. Thanks for sharing big guy

This is quite amazing. I love how rich it is. I bet it has to be bit tiring to draw all of that with only a red pencil. The result though, will be great.

so far its ALL colored pencil. Very few people understand how rich you can make pencil look with the right techniques
