Description Here is another piece coming at you.
So far it's just colored pencil and I'm super happy with how rich it's coming out
Follow me on twitter to see more progress [link]

The paper I used is Rives bfk printmaking paper.
So far it's only prismacolor pencil, just Poppy Red on top of the paper.
Then white for the highlights and Rouge Toscan (red) for the darker values.
All nicely blending with that blending stump.
I went trough about 3 Poppy Red pencils to get that base down.
I usually would start with a watercolor background.... but I forgot, ha. seriously.
The next step is adding Water-soluble wax pastels (Caran D'Ache) on top of the color pencil.
This is a new step in my process.
The pastels are freakn amazing though, I strongly recommend using then over your pencils

I'll keep you guys posted on more process.
I wanted to try and do a video for this one but had to start it faster then I intended.
Soon though guys, soon!!

Your work (obviously) over shadows mine by a long way, but it inspires me three, or seventeen times more. I really like your new direction. I first started following you when your work was more computer generated in the way it looked, but this new raw, hand-done stuff is really, really amazing.

Wow, that's colored pencil? I would have thought it was paint from the pic.

What kind of pencils are you using? And are the pastels making it look that smooth?

Man, I would like to see you work.
Recently I've been thinking about going back to art school but shelling out that kind of bread is for the wealthy.

...and I'm only wealthy in character.
I'm gonna' nose around here -again- and try to learn something before I pretend I'm going to sleep.

currently going to art school i can tell you this, its just a place where your forced to draw and draw a lot. If you have to the motivation to sit down for hours and draw by yourself at home, you will learn more doing that than going to art school. The teachers at school teach the same thing you can get from artbooks. Seriously artschool is not worth it if your tight in money. Lots of books and daily practice is much better

theXianRAExperience In reply to Omnipherant [2011-12-08 17:34:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I have finished art school -or it finished me- eons ago. I know that this is true as I spent the majority of my time in the library researching. Even had an art teacher tell me that "I was his competition" which inspired all kinds of confidence in everything they said to me after that point.

Truthfully, I have a better library of art books here at home but cannot stay in front of the drawing board for any significant amount of time. I let work take it away when I should have left work and chased "the big booty girl in the small red dress"

I thank you for your advice. I really do.

damn, after looking at your gallery i feel like a nub. Its clear you dont need to go to any art school haha. Looks like you have a pretty solid understanding of color, light, anatomy and such. cool stuff!

I understand the theory behind cold fusion too. That don't mean I should build a power plant any time soon.
I had the decent good fortune of being let go of a job I suffered through for 15 years. The last 6 were the worse, then there was hurricane Katrina and a couple strokes last year that the doctors said should have killed me. Yet, I'm better than I was before (...my opinion only)

All I want to do is draw.
All the stuff that got in my way -life ...or whatever claims to be life without allowing me to live- is now gone and I'm having trouble amping up the draw dog inside me.
No. ...The Draw God inside me.

Art school is rad BUT you can totally make it without going to school, you just have to push yourself...a lot

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theXianRAExperience In reply to theirison [2011-12-08 07:28:03 +0000 UTC]

I know, right.
I feel like I wasted time back in the middle ages when Hans Holbein was teaching drawing.

Now that I don't have to truck into work for a while -I think- I'm starting to draw again.
After almost four years without putting the pencil to the page, it's starting to come back.
...except for sketch-booking.

Anyway, I made more money as an artist when I was a kid, but my focus now is on not losing the thing I was born to do. Sounds like a lame line from a Dr. Strange comic book but there it is.
...and drawing women is the bonus.

yeah man, you can definitely draw your gallery is nice. Just start doing it ALL THE TIME and be looking at a ton of artist (that's all art school is)

Is that white colored pencil over red colored pencil? Or is that like a charcoal or pastel powder of some kind?

Either way it's very, very impressive indeed. Even the sketch is beautiful.
