Yes, the movie is very good in my opinion. It will be very complicated to understand the movie if your watching it for the first time though and will even remain a bit confusing after you've watched it a few more times.
This is because the movie is only a preview for the manga. Although the manga and movie were both written and directed by otomo they are still different. (Due to the fact the movie is only half the story, leaves characters out, and changes a few things)
If you want to experience everything for the full ride, read the manga.
I rate the manga 10 mint berry crunches/10 mint berry crunches
Read it, its amazing and worth your time.

I've read long manga before. The specific reason I haven't watched it is because I'm freaked out by the scenes where one of the guys (I am terrible with names) loses control of his powers and his arm does that freky thing I can't exactly describe. You probably know what I'm talking about. I've never had my questions answered about that. Namely: does that only happen. Once in the movie? And how long does that go on for? I know it seems lame, but if people would actually answer me I want to try jumping into this series. (Is that in the manga too?)

Yes its when tetsuo (the guy your talking about) overdoses on his powers and his powers grow to large for him to control which changes his body drastically (I'm sure you've seen it) and its more than just the arm.
This happens once in the movie and goes on for about 10 minutes, give or take. And in the manga he mutates about 3 times before not being able to change back and that's when he meets his demise by kaneda
Just look up tetsuos mutation and you can see what happens

yeah they kinda hinted that it might be the ame thing in the movie but it got really REALLY complicated towards the end

wow man this is one of the best renditions of tetsuo i have ever seen..i love the style you chose for him and the simple coloring... works really well with the piece..i love the details and shading on the morphing hand a lot..overall a magnificant pece...great job..
