Description
Having illustrated original, all-new GI Joe comics for Hasbro's GI Joe: A Real American Hero 25th Anniversary line, I figured it'd be fun to do a group shot, something I hadn't had a shot at working on the comics themselves. Here's the results!I recently put together this GI Joe group shot and good friend NATE LOVETT colored it up for me. I slapped the Joe logo on 'er, and here ya go!
GI Joe: A Real American Hero
Illustrated by Jeremy Dale
Colors by Nate Lovett
Thanks, Nate!

Having penciled a series of online G.I. JOE comics I"m pleased to say this is great, also has two of my all time faves Roadblock & Shipwreck.

Great to hear! My Joe run a few years back was a lot of fun and a lot of heartache-- I both miss it and don't at all.
hehehe

I can relate, be looking forward to jumping back in to the Joe world some day though. Grew up there & loved every minute, still do.

The three Joes I know best are Scarlett, Duke, and Snake-Eyes. I can see maybe Roadblock and Flint here too, but is that Shipwreck in there with the parrot? I'm still trying to get to know these characters. Nonetheless, it's nice to see a good group shot like this.

It wasn't inked at ALL, actually-- we didn't have time before we needed to go to print to get the inks back, so we threw it straight to Nate Lovett to color. He did a stellar job.

Very cool. : )
Snake Eyes looks appropriately awesome there in front. The coloring-over-pencil has a neat effect on the black elements of clothes in this pic, like Snake Eye's ninja suit, and Flint's shirt, and on the arms and legs of Scarlett's outfit. Gives it a neat shiny effect without being too shiny...A gritty shininess? I dunno, but it looks cool.
Scarlett looks great, too! I like her more action-y pose compared to the others, how she looks like she's moving or at least really ready to react to something. Her face looks really cute, too.
Duke looks good, though I think his upper body looks a little too long. Flint, Roadblock and Shipwreck (yay, Shipwreck!) all look great, though I'm a little sad that since they're farther in the bg they have less detailed faces...
Anyhoo, VERY awesome pic. : )

I'd rather it have been inked, but it worked out well enough in the end.
Thanks for the kind words! (and Duke's torso being too long isn't the reality-- he's wearing the pants lower, like Eisner did with the Spirit during much of its run-- I was referencing that in my mind with this piece)

ah this is fantastic! i loved this show as a kid, now its been replaced with a crappy remake "sigma 6" awesome job

thejeremydale In reply to KRSatterwhite [2008-04-07 08:42:33 +0000 UTC]
hehehe to be fair, the Sigma 6 line was cancelled nearly 2 years ago-- and just like any version of the Joes (the 12 inch original, the Real American Hero 3 3/4 inch line, the 10 inch Sigma 6), Hasbro will pull them out every now and then for a new take on the property. It's all cyclical-- heck, I was hired to do the 25th Anniversary of the Real American Hero comics for the new action figures, and that line just shows that Hasbro has a decent idea of the fanbase... and I appreciate that as a fan since childhood.
