Description
Did I not upload this before?!Here's a sketch of RYU from Street Fighter that I'd worked up for a sketch group over at the Bendisboards a short while back. Far enough back that I'm surprised I hadn't posted it-- I think it turned out fairly well!
I've always loved the Street Fighter games-- I'm not as hardcore as many, since I've never beaten it on any respectable difficulty level, but enough of a fan that I have probably five in my home video game collection, most on my Nintendo Wii at this point. I even have the Marvel vs Capcoms on multiple consoles. I just love going wild and smashing buttons from time to time.
Oh-- heh, there's a hadouken reference in Absolute Zeroes #2 as well as my character Hunter learns to use his explosive powers for the first time. Check that out if you haven't, it's a fun read.
Anyhoo, I dig the chunkier style character designs we've been seeing from Capcom (and some of the work by UDON, too), so I thought I'd 'Hulk-out' my style on this one to give Ryu the appropriate beefiness.
Enjoy! Let me know whatcha think.

It's actually bittersweet, this game was the sh*t until MK was all like "Finish him!" with it, I'm glad that it still retains popularity with the newer ones though

I don't really see the older thing that much, but thanks nonetheless! Much appreciated.

Many thanks! I enjoy working in muted colors, especially on quick sketches or convention sketches.

I think that translates to English as "Good job, Jeremy!!!! Congrats!" but I could be wrong.
Either way, thank you!

Yeah, he does look chunky-kinda like his SFII:World Warriors Versus Screen design. Looks pretty badass!
Anyway I'm more of a Ken fan. But I shudder everytime Ryu pulls off his Denjin Hadouken (Electric Will Blast).

"You can tell it's a Ken fan from his frantic D,R,DR + Punch(Shou Ryu Ken) spamming."

Cool pic. Reminds me a bit of Ed McGuinness' style particularly the head.
I have so many versions of SF though not as much as I used to and I do have several of the VS spin offs. I prefer the first Marvel Vs Capcom to the second one which I regard as one of my least favorite fighting games of all time (it's just purely a button mash fest with no real skill or sense of satisfaction to be gained as far I'm concerned). SFIV is easily my new favorite with SF Alpha 3 Max on PSP my close second.
Can't say I've enjoyed the SF comics much though. In fact the art is one of the things I dislike most.
I was gonna draw a pic of Ryu and Ken but when I started to do the basic layout it turns out I've been too long pixelling tiny little sprites and have forgotten everything about proper anatomy

Ed's stuff is definitely one of my faves of late, I could see that.
I'm not as interested in the strategy as much as just landing a cool blow and fighting towards the end boss. Versus play in just about any game rarely wins out over co-op stuff for me.

Yeah though a proper versus match in a proper Street Fighter against a skilled player in which I actually win (or even come close to winning) is the most satisfying game experience in all my years of gaming. Unfortunately I don't have any local friends even remotely good enough which is why I was glad to play SFIV online even despite the slight lag issues now and then. My girlfriend had her first taste of SF a month ago on my PS3 when she stayed over for a week and she's been wanting more. After the 20 mins of 'training' she got the ol' Hadoukens working most of the time. Maybe in time I can train her to be of a sufficient challenge for me

hehehe Watch out for that-- after my wife got the hang of it, she regularly trounces me with Cammy in most Street Fighter games anymore. I'm royally screwed if I play her. She even beat a friend of mine regularly who had won a local SFII championship several years ago
