#Nausicaa WIP #Dailysketch 40 So difficult to render over rough lines. But in the end, it has an aesthetic that is difficult to achieve otherwise. Started this at 5am cause i'm a poo poo head. BUT I SLEPT FOR LIKE 15 hours, so I won't be going bak to seep <3

Sigh. Miyazaki had originally wanted to make a trilogy that would have gone in a different direction from the manga. He ironically went through a phase of deep depression in no small part BECAUSE of the weird manga/anime rules in the industry back in the late 70s, early 80s. He stuck to his original vision long enough to finish the film, but was so depressed afterward by the time he got halfway through the manga that he just couldn’t bring himself to stick to his original outline, that had a much happier, hopeful ending overall. He went with a bittersweet, but mostly bitter, semi-tragedy, with some barely hopeful bits thrown in. Of course, once in this mood, he simply could not bring himself to continue the films because he would have to either take them along their logically consistent path of high hopes that he was no longer interested in, or in a radically different direction, which would not have been consistent and confusing instead.
So he set it aside indefinitely, and by the time his mood improved again, he decided to leave it be permanently.

I disagree, but in the sense that I wish the industry hadn’t been so pig headed at the time. I would not change a thing he did within that paradigm, but I really wish it hadn’t been there to begin with.
