Samina hummed softly as she raised the watering can over the flowers, watching the shiny droplets fall and rolls of the emerald leaves. Perfect and beautiful. Her prideful gaze swept over the greenhouse, she tended to every plant carefully and they gave her lovely flowers in turn. The warmth of her green eyes faltered slightly as they caught on a hanging basket of violas. Moving over towards them her mouth twisted slightly into a frown. The once perfectly spaced purple and yellow flowers had a hole where a bloom should be. Someone had taken from her. A small movement out of the corner of her eyes caught her attention and her head whipped severely in its direction.
"Viola." Her stern voice causing the meep to freeze.
The small, dark meep tensed at the sound of her mother's voice. Quickly hiding something behind her back.
"You took a flower, didn't you?" Slowly the elegant older kitter stepped over the crouching meep. Her hight evident to her daughter's shrinking form.
"N-no mama, maybe it fell off or something?" Viola knew to lie to her mother was useless but part of her hoped she would be put off by this a moment. It was a fleeting hope thought as Samina bent down to bring her face close to the child, cupping both of her hands around Viola's face so her golden eye had no choice but to meet her mother's green ones. Samina's green banded whiskers glowed slightly as she grinned what looked like a please smile but made Viola feel small and insignificant.
"Oh honey, please be honest with me?"
As the words slipped out of her mouth Viola felt a pit in her stomach as a nagging desire to tell the truth wormed into her mind.
"... I'm sorry mama..." She brought her hands from behind her back a crumpled bloom in her grasp. Samina let go and Viola felt a weight off her shoulders that swiftly returned when she noticed her mother grimacing down at the sad looking plant.
"Viola, dear, you know my plants are off limits, right?"
"Mhm." She flinched at the point of the last word.
Samina clicked her tongue and straightened her back as she turned to look at the plant the flower had come from.
"Hrm. Fine, keep it for now- but never do it again, ok?"
Viola nodded her head rapidly.
"Alright, run along then darling. You're late for lessons."
At her mother's dismissal, Viola quickly scurried off clutching the flower tightly as she carefully shut the greenhouse door behind her. After a moment more she halted, panting slightly. She looked down at the blossom in her hands. She had gotten the flower she was looking for but she didn't feel very happy. Slowly she tucked it in her ear. It was a viola, her namesake. Viola sighed and stared at the carpet for a long quiet moment before straightening up. She couldn't stay around moping forever. Like mother had said- she had lessons to get to.
