Description
Brief BiographySince she can recall, Pyriel had always been trained in one thing: to fight. A lot of her motivation stems from her previous leader, the Archangel Uriel, who has a strong rivalry with "El's Chosen", the handpicked angels given the right to wield holy power instead of Orbia's elements. Pyriel's talent was exactly what he needed to prove the worth of the angels of lightning. The irony is that later on, Pyriel will develop a strong friendship with Haniel, one of the same angels that Uriel has seen with contempt.
When the Arch-Traitor amassed his forces to attack during the War in Heaven, Pyriel was constantly by Uriel's side, striking down the fallen angels and their servants, and where she made her mark as a formidable combatant. However, Uriel's own pride was usually a factor that allowed the Arch-Traitor to gain ground, and was directly responsible for the eventual confrontation within the middle of Heaven. Although the Arch-Traitor was defeated, it came at the cost of the previous leadership core of Archangels, including Uriel. Suddenly, Pyriel was alone, without her mentor figure.
Pyriel was part of the angelic forces that drove the Arch-Traitor's remnants back, but once that was over, Pyriel had a hard time finding her own identity. All her life, she had devoted herself to Uriel, but with him gone, the road ahead was suddenly a blank, and Pyriel only took her place as one of the new Archangels due to her connections. Leadership was something she was clearly not ready for, and for a while, the lightning angels found themselves falling behind.
Nobody really knew when her change of heart came, but some can attribute to her having spent some time among humans (and being herself, not as a weapon) that may had a hand. Old Tinian stories still recall fondly the tales of a strong warrior woman and her adventures alongside a regular guy who wanted to be a hero, identified as "Ioannis". Compared to her, Ioannis is hardly a threat, but her interactions with him did show her a side that she had never seen before. Ioannis was probably the first person not to be intimidated by her stature, and even after knowing who she was, continued to stay by her side. This friendship culminated in an encounter that she will forever remember when they faced a barrage of collapsing rocks. Pyriel was able to push Ioannis aside before the rocks collapse on her. Pyriel survived thanks to her immortality, but by the time she got out, Ioannis had already passed on, brought on by survivor's guilt. It was then did she see what she had been after Uriel's sacrifice, which changed her dramatically. Even after millennia, there were always flowers or mementos left by Ioannis' grave, and perhaps due to surviving sketches and tales from the man, she became the model for the Tinic hoplites and their fighting styles.
Pyriel had since retaken her spot as one of the Archangels.
Personality
Pyriel's attitude and facade can change dramatically, shaped by her past experiences. Initially, perhaps due to her experiences and Uriel's tutorage, Pyriel can be seen as really stoic. Even in the most dire of situations, Pyriel is able to stay cool, composed and professional, and her loyalty to Uriel is unwavering. Some have likened her to an automaton (something she detests being called), being that she only gives short answers, and her answers are very blunt and direct, with no concern to the receiving end.
However, her years on Orbia and time with Ioannis had changed her dramatically. Though the concepts of empathy and compassion are entirely human aspects, Pyriel still tries her best to show them, long after Ioannis' passing.
While Uriel's tutorage certainly helped with bringing out the best of her combat abilities, it had the side effect of not making her prepared for social interactions. Being Uriel's star pupil also did not help, as many lesser angels feel intimidated by her achievements. Uriel's loss left a big hole in her social life, and it was not until the encounter with Ioannis did things change. While her sentences still remain relatively short, she does try to be gentle and not hurt the feelings of others. Alongside Iofiel, Pyriel is among the nicer angels towards humanity, though unlike Iofiel, Pyriel does struggle with interactions.
Powers & Abilities
There is no doubt that Pyriel is the ideal warrior, being able to charge headfirst into combat and fulfill her objectives without worry of wavering.
Pyriel's weapons include a round shield, with cutouts on the top and bottom, along with a retractable spear that can serve as a sword in various conditions. Pyriel does apply some of her magics into combat, though she usually reserves those for tougher opponents. Pyriel is an accurate mark when she throws her weapon like a javelin, though she claims she is not fond of doing this, saying that she "feels naked" without a weapon by her side.
Pyriel is a hypothetical candidate for the "Grand Lancer" class of Servant. Although she also has classifications for a Saber servant due to the nature of her weapon, Lancer remains her ideal combat classification.
