I removed the character names from the drawings I had of characters by a specific writer in protest. But yes, it's St. John. He was revealed to be a traitor, but it doesn't matter now as because of legal messes, the comic rebooted last year and St. John doesn't exist anymore.

You are referring to the regular Sonic book ?
I cancelled my sub in #134-5 because of the way the series was going.
There were also far too many characters to be properly used. Crowd scenes right & left.
There is even a hilarious fan-pic showing Sonic being crowded out by ever increasing hordes of characters.
Tails. Knuckles. Rouge. Shadow. Amy. And many others, incl. some whose names & actions do not ring a bell.
I notice that series tend to get overcrowded with characters, story arcs, etc. Why, in Summer Wine, each episode had 3-4 stories going on, each worthy of its own series. BUT they all ended with the end of the series.

Yes, the regular Sonic book. Basically Ken Penders, main writer for the comic around the time you cancelled your sub, claimed copyright to his characters (a vast majority of the crowd you're mentioning) circa issue #210, and so while the comic kept spinning the wheels for a while as the court case developed (which would be when we had said St. John is a disciple of Ixis Naugus story, and Sally roboticized, etc), eventually the court case tipped to Penders side and Archie rebooted (circa issue 252) to remove any character not owned by SEGA, just to avoid any other writer doing the same thing (something to do with missing contracts).
So now it's as if we randomly were reading another comic that's been around for 20 years (it didn't start anew, it just kinda shifted gears into a new continuity) that's closer to the games continuity (not close enough to me though ) and all. Being frank, nitpicks aside the comic's been good fun for some 6... almost 10 years now, since around 165, but yes, because of all this behind-the-scenes mess over the last 3 or 4 years, things have been a roller coaster.
And as a means of petty protest, I ended up changing the names and descriptions of any fanart I have of characters that were claimed by Ken Penders because he can go suck a frog.

Who'd have though a guy with the surname st. John would turn out to be a Judas (no offence intended). There's the crossbow he shot Sonic with.

He TRIED to kill Sonic in #45, but Antoine belted him one ! The picnic ended as a brawl and storm of accusations - until Sally yelled TIME OUT !!

I still think this is all an undercover mission to put Maximillian on the throne, not Naugus, though.

Weeeeeeell, we dunno. Sonic could still be the traitor. Or Sally. I'd like that.
