The room had never felt so still, so lifeless. What once was filled with so much cheer and love, now contained nothing but dread. Sarah was still laying on the large bed, her breathing so slow, and her body motionless. It pained Tohru to see his wife like this. She shouldn’t have gotten hurt. He should have protected her! He made a vow to do so and look what happened! She was lying unconscious on their bed because of him!

Tohru hid his face in his hands. He couldn’t bear to see her like this….he never wanted to see her like this ever again. His Sarah had to suffer so much pain in her life, but never like this. He wanted her to have a peaceful and happy life and he failed her. Greatly.

“Oh Sarah…” he whispered, tenderly taking her hand into his. “I am so sorry…” He kissed her on the forehead, swiping her long orange hair away from her pale face. So beautiful…so delicate…she was an angel. HIS angel. No one else’s but his alone.

Suddenly a light began to form from the other side of the bedroom. Tohru looked to see where it was coming from. Hanging on the wall,) was the Pendant of Light. It had been placed there by Sensei to watch out for Sarah while she healed.
“The Pendant contains good chi so that the Forces of Darkness do not enter here”, was what the old Chi Wizard had told him. It had begun to glow brightly, but then shimmer to a soft light, till there was no more. The sumo blinked; standing right before him was Isabella.

She said nothing, walking slowly to the bed, the chains cuffed to the tall woman’s hands, feet, and neck jiggling as she moved. Once she was there, she slowly caressed the young Seeker’s face, concern and shame being seen on her features as she looked at her. Isabella spoke but did not face Tohru.

“You must rest, Master Tohru. You need your strength.”

“Thank you, but no. I shall stay up, until she awakens.”

“It could take hours-”

“I do not care.” He said flat out to the magical being. He had a duty to perform. Someone had to protect Sarah while she was recovering from her injuries. He wanted to be the first person that Sarah would see when she would awake from her slumber.

The tension in the room grew, as so did the silence between the two beings. They neither moved nor spoke to one another, just stayed where they were at, not even glancing at each other. Completely lost in their own train of thoughts, dealing with the events that had taken place.

“It wasn’t your fault.”

Tohru broke from his trance. Had the Guardian of the Pendant said that to him? Why would she say that? “I do not know what you mean.”

“What happened today. It was not your fault, Master Tohru, No one knew what was going to happen, so please do not wallow in your guilt. None of this-“

“How can you say that? How dare you say that!” shouted the enlarged man, rising from his seat. “The reason she is hurt is because of me! I was supposed to protect her from danger! I was supposed to keep her safe, but I could not do that! That demonic dragon took control of her right in front of my very eyes and I could not do a thing about it! ME! ME! The one who has the strength of ten men, the one who over towers everyone. I could over power anyone who dares go against me. I have done terrible things, Isabella, terrible things. Ones that should not be spoken of to anyone. It is because of me that the only woman I have ever loved is hurt. She could have died because of me! Because of the terrible mistakes and choices I have done in my past. It has come back to harm those that I love. So do not dare to say that any of this is not my fault!”

He was shaking from his sudden outburst, taking in deep breaths, trying to calm his nerves down before he did something he would regret later on. He felt tired and exhausted from his emotional speech, and it took most of his energy he had left to sit back down and face Isabella. She had stood there throughout the entire breakdown, and once it was over her face held nothing but compassion and understanding.

“I know of your strengths Master Tohru, of what you can do. Of all the crimes you have done in your past. Do you think you are the one to blame for her being hurt? It is I who should be blamed for this. It is that horrible monster Shendu-“

Her face twisted in pain, as the golden tattoos on her body began to glow. She knelt over, grasping on to the floor for support. Tohru rushed to her side, making sure she was alright. A few moments passing before the Magi was able to breathe normally again. She slowly lifted herself up from the floor. Tohru did the same as well.

“Forgive me, Master Tohru. This diabolic curse forbids me and the Magi from speaking of certain things.” She said sadly, but then became stern. “But it does not prevent me from speaking about what I have to say to you.”

“You say you have done terrible things. That is true. Those hands have caused destruction and harm from just a single touch. You have taken lives and stolen priceless antiques that held more than just treasure. You have walked the path of sins, Master Tohru.”

Tohru held his breath, entranced by her words. They were so true, all of what she had said. Everything right down to the very core.

“And yet…these hands…” she whispered taking a hold of the giant’s hands, “…these hands that have caused great chaos, could do such good things. So filled with passion and love, these hands hold. They have picked up a small child, without hurting them. You have shown gentleness to those you have cared for. You have shown love to the woman who makes your heart beat faster when she is near you. You have done those things as well Master Tohru.
Do not bury your past young one, for it shall haunt you for the rest of your life. You must accept it and move on. It won’t be easy, nothing ever is, but you will be able to live with yourself and sleep peacefully at night. Mistress Sarah has accepted you…all of you. The good and the bad all together. Why can’t you do the same as well for yourself?”

Silence once more hit the room, Isabella staring at the young man before her. Tohru’s mind was processing everything that had been told directly to him. She was right in a way. Sarah did accept his faults, saying she loved him for him. Nothing else mattered. Why? Why could she love someone, an ex convict, like him?

“I could never understand why she picked me. Someone with my background and my looks, why would an innocent girl pick me?”

“The same reason you chose her.” said Isabella. “You saw someone who loves you dearly; Someone who cares for you; who accepts you for who you are not just because of status or wealth. Someone who makes you feel all warm inside when they smile at you. A person willing to do things they don’t like because you happen to like them. Someone you dearly miss when they are gone even for just a moment. You complete one another. Whatever your weaknesses are, happen to be their strengths, and vice-versa. There is give and take, sharing the responsibilities and consequences in your life.” She took a slow breath before she continued. “A person willing to die for you, because they love you. They are willing to make the sacrifices.”

“Soul mates.” whispered Tohru, finally finding his voice at last.

“Yes. That is the perfect word to describe it. Soul mates.”

“How do you know all this, Izzy?” asked Tohru.

Isabella smiled sadly at him. “You are not the only one who has a soul mate. One that has been separated from me for so long because of this curse. Taken away from me.” A tear slid down her cheek. Before Tohru could say anything, she raised herself up and headed towards the pendant. “Stay with her, Master Tohru. Being away from your loved ones is a painful feeling. We, the Magi, know of this far too well.”

She was about to transport herself back to the Pendant and join the others to help protect the household from any dangers, but not before Tohru called out to her.

“Wait…Isabella…what did you mean it was your fault?”

She sighed, but never looked at him when she spoke. “Like you, The Pendant of Light can cause great good or horrific harm to anyone…and rule the world. Anyone who is a wielder of magic can control the Pendant and do whatever they wish us to do in a single moment. That is the real reason, Master Tohru. The only reason.”

Tohru looked at her with all the seriousness written on his face. “Isabella…rest assured no one will take you or your people away from us. We will make sure of it.”

Isabella nodded. “I pray for it. It is very rare we get such kind masters such as Master Chan, Master Jackie, Mistresses Jade and Sarah, and yourself of course. All of you have our protection. No one shall be harmed with us here to serve you. We will make sure of it. So that this…” she looked over to Sarah on the bed. “…never happens again. I swear to it on my honor.”

“I know you will.”

“Good night, Master Tohru.”

“Good night Isabella.”

With a small wave of her hand, she vanished back into her prison, leaving Tohru alone with Sarah once more. Suddenly the bed started to shift.

“Tohru.”

“Sarah.” He whispered.

“Where…am…I? What…happened…?”

“Rest my love. I will tell you later.” He said, blinking back the tears of joy about to escape from his eyes. His love was going to be okay. She was going to live.

“Love…you…”

“I love you too, my beautiful Sarah. I love you so much.” He said, kissing her lips, as she fell back into her sleep once more. He watched over his love, like he had promised. He watched over her into the far night and into the early morning hours. He did not leave her side, not once.

He then made another promise. He promised that no matter what, he and the others would break the curse of the Pendant of Light. So that the Magi could be reunited with their loved ones once more. No longer having to be alone or separated ever again.

He vowed to keep that promise. And he would keep it.

This was another short piece written by the wonderful and awesome, for Tohru and Isabella!!
She sent this to me in a note, and I teared up the first time I read it, because she depicted Tohru's love for Sarah so perfectly, and touched on so many things that Tohru suffers over. She did such a beautiful job in this piece, so i HAD to draw a picture to match it!
I only now realize Isabella is supposed to have chains here, and I completely forgot about them, but I hope you all can enjoy this despite that little hiccup.
