Well, I pictured Mariah as being the type who prefers to be more alone than in a company. So she has hid in a cave when a little mouse/rat hybrid runs over onto her paw and she lifts it up, looking at the critter. And yeah, the light thing on top... is an opening to the cave... I imagine her being in some sort of "crater", so only she can fly in and out of it.
