I kind of had the idea for this stamp a while back. Mainly due to how just about every little thing is considered "overrated" as long as it has a fanbase and it's popular.

That's not what overrated means! Some things have a reason to be popular just because how great they are. You might not like something but If you can see reasons behind somethings popularity and you don't see other things in that genre that you feel should be more popular, then it's not overrated. It just simply means you don't like it, there is a huge difference.

Question, isn't it a much better thing to just say you don't like something instead of just calling it "overrated" I think that's a much better way to show dislike. If the fans are giving legit reasons to like something and you can see it from their viewpoint, then it shouldn't have to be considered overrated.

Things that do not make something overrated
- large fanbase
- rabid fans (all of them have rabid fan-boys!)
- disliking a certain thing

Usually it's when the marketing is large of a product of poorer quality is when something is "overrated" Example might be like the movie Avatar. Advertized greatly and had a lot of sales but the movie itself, well.... you know the rest. xP The point is is when people start over-glorifying what's actually there.

Being a gaming geek I've been seeing some people saying how certain franchises are "overrated." Examples, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda. Pokemon was an epic concept and came off with many games that are in high quality and had a child's mind instantly go into the world of imagination. It's still a very successful franchise with good reasons and if you don't like it, that's fine, you just simply don't like it. The Legend of Zelda, huge influence on the adventure genre. It had very neat atmospheres in their games, some sound-tracks I still listen to regular, that feel of epicness that Zelda games bring. They are still in great quality and there is reasons to like them so it's not overrated if you don't like it. It's just not in your taste.

Also, just because I acknowledge some things as overrated doesn't mean I think it's "bad." Some things I like that I believe are overrated. Wolves: I love wolves, but their fans just are, ugh. They aren't even that strong of creatures but it's fans still over-glorify them putting them on a pedestal with false arguments. Sonic: Though how much a love the guy, there are so many people who think it's a perfect series completely free of flaws. When really, it's probably up there at number 8 if I made a top ten favorite gaming franchises. Not only that the few Sonic related groups I'm in flood my inbox. *shudders*

In short, I do recognize some things as being overrated. But I don't use it in a derogatory way just because I don't like something. If you can understand why something has a large fan-base, then I wouldn't classify it as overrated. And yes, there will always be rabid fans out there, it's something you just need to get over.
