Description
Jasper's Story:I saw the graceful creature beyond the trees, standing there like it was waiting for something… Or someone…
I took a few steps forward and drew my katana, ready for whatever I could see past a single tree trunk… But the creature saw me first, and immediately looked afraid. It tried to get a better view of me without getting closer, so I stepped out from the small thicket, revealing myself to the strange, strange creature, which was standing in a grassy clearing.
It had green scales, brighter and even more beautiful than jade- its back had a trail of spines, which started from its neck and went all the way down to the tip of it’s long, muscular tail. Its batlike wings were not stretched out, but I could see enough to know that this thing could carry me in its long talons, while still being able to fly across the entire hemisphere…
I was definitely not in my own city, and I may not even still be on my own planet…
Although this dragon was no monster, not like the rabid, disgusting beasts we had on our smokey, grey planet earth: She almost reminded me of a human, from the way her eyes lit up with fright at the sight of me, and the way she stepped backward with every step I took forward…
I kept watching as she glanced down at my katana, then back into my eyes- I could tell she was nervous about my weapons… I should’ve dropped my sword, to show trust, but I didn’t. I couldn’t find the courage to.
I would never hurt such a gentle, graceful creature, so why was it so hard for me to drop my katana? I didn’t want to fight, and I didn’t want either of us to leave with a wound, yet there was a voice in my head telling me to take my gun out, too.
I guess it was all just too new for me,
I guess I was just…
Scared…
Kiwi's Story:
There was something in the forest, something I had never seen before…
I could feel my pulse get faster, as the blood in my veins began to rush at speeds I couldn’t even describe to you in words: There was a shiver that started from the spike on my nose and zapped every single scale on my body with a quick, cold bite.
I got shy being near dragons I didn’t know, and now I was about to face an entirely different species…
I wanted to fly away so badly- I wanted to fly away and never come back to this valley. Every single part of my body was telling me to take off and go get help,
Except for my heart, which told me to stay…
As the creature emerged from the forest, my heart pounded even faster- at this rate I didn’t know that was even possible. I felt my talons protract from my claws, even though I knew I was too nervous to attack anything.
He was the strangest thing I had ever seen in my entire life:
He didn’t have scales, and the only fur he had was on the top of his head, it was a mix of black and brown, and came outwards in small ringlets.
His body was covered head to toe in armor and weapons- I could recognize his blades, but on the side of his hip there was another, strange weapon I hadn’t seen before… His left arm was also peculiar- it wasn’t an actual limb, it was mechanical.
He stared at me directly in the eyes- his cold, dark iris were a deep, brown shade, that showed both fear and bravery at the same time…
I began to calm down- I assumed that if he wanted to fight he would’ve made a move by now, but I was still nervous from not knowing what this creature was; they had never appeared in our lands before, assuming he wasn’t the last of his kind.
His eyes broke the stare with mine as he looked into the distance, suddenly his eyes widened and he looked even more terrified than before. I turned my head for a split second to see what he was looking at: My friends were coming directly towards us.
I had completely forgotten that I was meeting them at this spot, and I couldn’t imagine their reaction when they saw this new… Thing that I found, but as the pack of dragons glided down the top of the mountains, coming at a fast pace towards us, the new creature put his blade in a pocket which hung from the side of his waist. He then turned, and he ran away into the woods as fast as his small, two legs could carry him.
A piece of me was relieved and wanted to go greet my friends, yet another piece of me was curious- That might have been the first time a dragon has seen such a thing, but it also might have been the last…
I looked to my friends in the distance, ready to fly to them.
But then looked back into the deep thicket, where I could catch up to that strange being and learn more about what his story was.
I sighed, took a gulp, and flew into the direction I knew would be best...
~~~~
And whether she flew to her friends, or into the thicket,
Will remain a mystery...
Contest Entry for Jomadis , I took the first option, but gave it a more serious mood to it.
Let me explain the shadows, too:
While the bodies show what they are on the outside, the shadows show how they feel on the inside. Jasper is a human, which means he is no match for a dragon like Kiwi, however taking into consideration that Kiwi is shy to new faces, I thought that in this situation, she would emotionally feel like she's the human girl. While she looks at Jasper, and sees nothing but a scary creature, which looks deadly in every way. Hopefully that makes sense? :3
Kiwi's shadow is supposed to have long hair flowing in the back, and a bit of her "dress" is flowing back too, to reflect off of her tail. Sorry if that didn't turn out to good X3
I know I have a lot of dragon OCs, but I just didn't want to turn down this idea: I came up with the story before I came up with the art, and I have to say that it really helped inspire me to create this.
Overall I had a blast making this- even if I don't win I got to practice a lot of new things with dragon anatomy, shading, and lighting. The only part I wasn't having too much fun with was the grass, since traditional art means drawing every. single. strand. X)
Anyway I hope you like it!
Materials used were prisma and crayola pencils of all colors, crayons for the background, and paint for the greenery.
Wow, this is actually really good. Compared to literally 95+% of the Internet you have some genuine talent in writing. The art, like always, is also awesome. I wouldn't be entering the contest anyways, but this sure is 500x better than anything I could do. (Also, while there are humans in the books, they're extremely rare and live on the brink of extinction, so don't worry about the 'accuracy' of the story on that front.)
(Oh thanks for telling me! Hm, according to google scavengers don't seem too have guns/alien technology- so maybe I'll slide by on this one X)
