Actually, Trunks would have had one at birth. Gohan did, after all. All the human/saiyan hybrids younger than Gohan had parents who knew better than to let them keep said tails, though.

If Trunks, Goten, Bra or Pan had one there would be ATLEAST some sort of mention they removed it, but we never even got that.

Why would there need to be a mention, though? If those three had their tails removed at birth, what purpose would telling the reader/watcher about that fulfill?
