Josh tries to cheer Nico up once again, but ends up making Nico depressed when the conversation turns to what Nico's relationship status is with Tessa. Then right on time Tessa shows up and treats Nico just like a little sister and use the feminine pronoun "she" to refer to Nico.
Note: Was a bit unsure if this conversation flowed well or the joke made sense. Might change it.

Well she is definitely treating her like a little sister, she probably has never had a sister before so shes kind of acting that out. Also maybe she really doesn't really have any other girls her age to hang out with. And she doesn't quite know how to deal with the fact that he has changed and how exactly to deal with it. Its cute the way Tessa is dealing with her Nico though. She also protective of her like a sister, and now she has to find out why Nico is sad.

Even the most accepting companions of the Doctor in Dr. Who, are shown to have uncertainty upon a regeneration, whether they travel or have traveled aboard the TARDIS, or are people who he visits from time to time, even Vastra in the most recent episode was slightly uncertain, so the very observation that Nico made that she doesn't look at her the same way is evidence to that. I mean while who Nico is hasn't changed from when she was Nicco, but does she even know herself how far the change went? Even assuming gender isn't an issue to Tessa, how does she know whether that changed as well for Nico when she doesn't know herself? I mean there are certain subtleties that while aren't personality or orientation related will be different on account of certain chemical differences that she is experiencing that will likely be more noticeable because she does not have experience with them.

Yeah, very turn, such a big change brings much uncertainties with it. Oh, and good Dr. Who example (I need to watch more of that show). Will have to wait and see how things work there way out. Thanks for the detailed analysis.

did something like that in my SMG series but with a twist, when Aurora became a Magical girl she was magically made straight breaking her long term lesbian relationship...then later on her GF becames the series Magical Boy so everying ends up working out in the end
