Wait... did anyone notice that Cognitio called Orthros off when Allan said "Any shield can break if you hit it hard enough."? With this info and the info revealed at the end of Katherine and Elam's story, would it be too much of a stretch to presume that:r
a) Cognitio has no idea who the hell he is.
and
b)Cognitio can only travel so far outside the library (and only so far from his portals) and he is trying to find a way out.

I enjoy the theory crafting, but keep in mind that each person's story isn't necessarily interconnected to the same lore. Everyone is kind of spinning their own tale based on the info that's on the ref sheets. So in Burd's canon, Cognitio is trying to find "who he is", but in mine, he's completely aware of who he is and his goals are different.
