Description as Miroku, I as Sango. I am not satisfied with the fit or drape of his costume. It was not originally made for him and the fabrics are too heavy to drape very nicely. But he did an admirable job playing the amorous monk!

may I ask how you wrapped his kesa? I'm making a Miroku costume for a friend of mine and we may need advice for its kesa wrapping. many people sew on a fake one in pieces and it just looks too tacky. others are often worn funny but I really like the way this one is worn. please inform.

I'm sorry to say, but I ended up cheating on the drape. I just sewed it into the robe in a way that looked convincing. I recommend using a light, cottony fabric, maybe a linen-like solid that you an get at Joann Fabrics. Have your model put on his/her robe and stand around for a while so you can try different draping methods.

Yes! Myself too!!

Do you like the way she is shown in The manga or anime?

I'm not too familiar with the manga, so I couldn't say, truthfully. But I like the show a lot!

Duuuuuudddeeee~!!! Have you ever thought of commissioning? I know a friend who might be interested!

Thanks for asking, but I think my commissioning days are over. I really like to make costumes, but the time and effort involved aren't often worth the price I'm asking.

A couple I know wants to cosplay as them, but I have no idea...

I've never sewn clothes, only stuffed animals.
I don't know the first thing about making a cosplay costume...

Any help..?

Well, if you're familiar with sewing ANYTHING, that's half the battle!
I would start with a Kwiksew unitard pattern for Sango. You'll need spandex, a zipper, and some thick/rigid material for the armor. I used automotive headliner. The trim is pipe backing that is sewn on like piping is sewn to a pillow.
Miroku can be made from a basic bathrobe pattern, just change up the sleeves and add the drape. I'd recommend a lightweight fabrics. The stuff I used was too heavy and you can tell from the drape. I made the staff by carving and sanding the top from medium-density-fiberboard (MDF at Home Depot). I added wooden beads and metal rings and painted the whole thing gold.
I hope this is a good start. I think I have more details here:

Just click on the pics of Sango and Miroku. Have fun!

That sounds... expensive!

D:

What would the price be?

Maybe I'll just tell them to buy from you

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheMightyPegasus In reply to PandaBearPaige13 [2010-04-01 14:05:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, the materials are a bit pricey. Most spandex retails from 7-12 USD a yard and Miroku's material is up for grabs, depending on what you settle on. Although he does take a lot of yardage.

I would love to do a commission, however, I am booked until June at least and probably won't be open for commissions again until next year

Hn,

I don't think there is any way I can do it.

It's fine, I'll just tell him to find someone.

We have created a new group of Inuyasha-Cosplay, hardly any members but we hope to make it a large following of inuyasha. Are you interested in being in the group?

did you make the sango cosplay?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheMightyPegasus In reply to yukataka [2010-02-06 17:25:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes, ma'am. I made both costumes, although Miroku's doesn't fit as well as I'd like it to (I originally made it for someone else). Looks like you do a pretty solid Inu Yasha cosplay, too!

awwww shucks >////< Inuyasha was my first anime so ofcourse I wanted to cosplay him but it was always my dream to be sango in her battle uniform but my wallet doesnt agree ;-; so my other alternative is to make it ^^
I think both cosplays you made look great!

TheMightyPegasus In reply to yukataka [2010-02-10 18:30:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot! It actually wasn't too expensive to make, I used automotive headliner (a thin foam) to make the 'armour' and the rest is just a spandex unitard I made with the special hand-thingees attached (it zippers in the back). I hope you get around to making yours, I think you'd make a great Sango.

I should have gotten a better pic of the staff...it was the only part that was much improved since the costume was made. I used 3in metal rings from JoAnn's to great effect. They jingle!
