They were created by Alex Lovy, an animator that worked on Walter Lantz and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, especially on the latter.

Second Banana--for years I wondered why the heck the mouse was named that--especially because as a child, I thought his name was Sticky Banana. Now I get it--and that's about the funniest thing about that series. Merlin did have a catchy theme song though.

The original is not so snazzy... Pretty much very unoriginal characters.

lol, you make him look interesting XD I didn't like much that cartoon era, the animation style just got worse (In my opinion)

yeah, the contrast to the fluid stuff of the earlier years showed here. But nearly all studios suffered in the 70s and HB was one of the few with a lot success. So studios adapted their reduced simple animations to be in better competition.

I remember these guys! They had a little run-in with a leprechaun in one of their adventures, if I'm not mistaken!

I was about to say these guys have a retro feel about their design before I even read who they were (I haven't seen e'm ) Though I was thinking more along the lines of Hanna Barbera but I can see how they'd be Warner Bros now too

Themrock In reply to Chromattix [2011-09-27 15:06:56 +0000 UTC]

In the 70s WB kinda adapted a lot techniques from HB and I think WB bought the HB studio in the 70s or not?

The animation department of WB that created the Looney Tunes shorts was closed around the 70s.

Sometimes people forget how fabulously orange, pink and lime go together. I love the old-fashioned feel of this picture, and everything you make is so damned weird, which is great IMO. Thanks for the smile. ;D
