Description
How to draw a head in profile (Lord Shadowblade style!) I hope you guys like this. I think the proportions are fine, maybe the relationship between the ear, bottom of the nose and lips (and chin may be a little off) but it'd just be more elongated which can be fixed easily. I've just found that drawing a circle first helps a lot to keep the facial profile stuff right. So there you go! (Ignore the random sketches, they have nothing to do with the drawing of the profile heads!)1. First, draw a circle and then cut it into quarters like shown above. The horizontal line is your eyebrow and top-of-the-ear line and the vertical line also seperates the ear from the rest of the face.
2. Draw the (whatever that's called, the part of the jaw that bends sharply and comes out towards the chin) and draw a straight line down from the front of the face.
3. Draw an ear. This will help you with the other lines. Make sure it's big. Or else everything else will have to be small. At the bottom of the ear, draw a horizontal line to the front of the face. The will be your nose line. Now, see that space between the lines? That's how long your nose is! That's why the ear needs to be big.
4. Draw the nose first (then you'll know how much space to put between that and the eye) then draw your eyebrows and eyes. On the horizontal line coming from the jaw, draw your lip line then draw the lines of the lips.
5. Draw the hair lines (unless of course the person you are drawing is bald
6. (This is the best part!) Shade and add all the rest of the details that you like! Yeah! We're done!
I hope that wasn't too boring.
Hey! Idea! I challenge the people who see this to try this out and then send me a link so I can see it too! Whoop!

Same basic principle, just perhaps round the features more to make them more feminine.

OK, I just found this "how to", and I am stoked. I fail at drawing faces. Epic fail. But I just drew a face using this guide and I totally managed to draw one. OK, there's some perspective and shading issues, but boy is this an improvement. You can take a look here: [link] to see the final result. Until then, I thought my drawing of the one-eyed Templar was good, but this one is a tremendous improvement.
Basically, what I wanted to say was that you rock for putting this up here and sharing.

Oh wow, thank you!! I'm so glad you found it helpful! Actually, I've been thinking for a while that I need to do a new one for this, because, now that I look at it, my profile head isn't very good.
*facepalms* The method is fine I think, but my proportions are off. Now *that's* a fail.
*looks at link* Yeah, your profile head turned out much better than mine methinks.

I think the proportions in this "how-to" look fine. But then, the thing I've noticed about a lot of artists is that they tend to be uber-critical of their own work. Seriously though, thank you for sharing. You have no idea how weird and alienesque my drawings use to look.

Heh, well, I suppose someone has to be uber-critical of my work, since my family sure as heck isn't. More like indifferent, but whatever.
And I would be really scared if I WASN'T critical of my work. Then I'd just be stagnant and never get anywhere with my art.
Heheheh, hey, we've all been there. Gosh. You don't even WANT to see what a lot of my early pictures looked like.. *shudders*

LOL Gotta love indifferent reactions from la familia. To this day, my mom loves (totally loves) my drawings but does not get my writing. I'd be chill with this except that my job is writing and my hobby is drawing. She reads primarily mystery novels and just cannot understand why my medieval fantasy stories do not have exploding cars or drive-bys. Plus, the irony is that while my writing can still always use polishing and improvement, it is leaps and bounds beyond my drawing ability. Oh well. I just draw her Mother's Day cards and don't force her to read my writings and we're all happy.

Heheheh, yeah, especially when they run something like this: *just finishes scrawling down soem crappy sketch* *sibling comes in * "WOW THAT'S SOOOOOOO GOOD!!" Me: Really? Here's my picture that I've spent a hundred-thousand gazillion years on." Sibling: "Umm, it's alright I guess."
I checked your gallery, do you have any sample writing you're going to put up here? Or do you not feel comfortable putting your writing online?
Hey, at least your family READS.

Ha! Siblings are great for that. One of my sisters loves everything I write. I mean, I could copy a column from the Yellow Pages and she would call it her new favorite work. My other sister basically requires that I ascend to the level of Dostoevsky before she says, "Yeah, not bad. Characterization needs work, though." Oye.
I've thought about putting some writing in my gallery, but the problem is that it is then considered published and is virtually impossible to sell to a market. Right now though, most of my writing is in online magazines, so I have no qualms with disseminating my weirdness across the interwebz.
By the way, thanks for looking at my gallery.

Oh man, Dostoesvky. Most fabulous man of MY LIFE. Gosh. I LOVE him. Actually, just Russian literature in general. Them Russians know how to write awesome books.
Oh really? That's intersting. I did not know that.
