From what I could see, you just need to pay attention to shapes. Don't paint eyes or a mouth, rather focus on the value and color of a certain shape. If you can learn to reproduce the large shapes (like shadow and light areas) then you can refine them as you go along, but the shape is the most important thing. The second most important thing is value. Color is secondary to value. You need to check your lights and darks to see if they are accurate. A good way to do this is to put in your darkest spot first and your lightest spot second, then you can use these as reference points for the rest of the painting. This is how you add drama to a painting, whether it is a landscape or a portrait, the light and dark contrast creates drama. I hope this helps.

I wasn't trying to be negative. I think it's a damn good painting! Seriously! So please don't take my minor criticism too seriously. I'm no art pro, and I was only saying it looked a tiny bit off somehow, not something major.
